On the afternoon of December 1, a representative of the People's Committee of Tra Don Commune (Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam Province) said that they had inspected the scene of a serious landslide that occurred in Tu Hon Village, Hamlet 3, Tra Don Commune. This landslide was caused by consecutive earthquakes in Kon Plong District (Kon Tum Province), causing dozens of large rocks to roll down from the top of Ngoc Mong Mountain, threatening the safety of people in the village.

On the afternoon and evening of November 30, Kon Plong district recorded 6 consecutive earthquakes. The first 3 were strong with magnitudes of 4, 3.8 and 3.4 on the Richter scale. The following earthquakes were of lesser intensity but still created distinct tremors.

Due to its geographical location, the mountainous district of Nam Tra My, Quang Nam, was severely affected by aftershocks. Locals reported feeling the tremors, especially during the first two earthquakes. Many people were so frightened that they had to flee their homes to ensure their safety.

In Tu Hon village, the earthquakes caused serious landslides. Many large rocks slid from the mountain top to an area only 30-50 meters from houses. Some rocks are now perched precariously on high cliffs or stuck to tree roots, threatening to continue rolling down.

In response to the above situation, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Nam Tra My district has directed the urgent evacuation of 17 households with 69 people in Tu Hon village. In addition, a kindergarten in the area is also in the danger zone.

Currently, the authorities of Nam Tra My district and Quang Nam province are urgently implementing measures to overcome the consequences, while closely monitoring the geological situation in the area to prevent further risks.

According to statistics from the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center - Institute of Geophysics, from the beginning of 2024 to now, the whole country has had 458 small earthquakes in the provinces of Kon Tum, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang, Phu Yen, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Yen Bai, Vinh Phuc, Thua Thien - Hue, Thanh Hoa, Dien Bien, Ninh Binh, Lai Chau, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Phu Tho and Hanoi. Of the total 458 earthquakes mentioned above, there were about more than 430 earthquakes occurring in Kon Plong district of Kon Tum province.

Of the total 44 earthquakes that occurred in November 2024, 39 occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province.
