University revenue increases by 1,000 billion VND per year

Main revenue from tuition fees

In the group of universities with revenue of thousands of billions of VND, three schools: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Van Lang University and FPT University achieved revenue of more than 2,000 billion VND. FPT University alone had revenue of nearly 3,000 billion VND.

These are also the three universities with the largest revenue increase in 2023. Of which, Hanoi University of Science and Technology's revenue increased by more than VND1,000 billion, double that of 2022.

Statistics show that Hanoi University of Science and Technology's revenue increased the most from tuition fees with about 500 billion VND, accounting for about 50% of the total increase in 2023. Budget revenue of more than 122 billion VND in 2022 also increased to 290 billion in 2023. Revenue from transfer research increased by 11 billion VND, and from other legal sources increased by more than 390 billion VND.

Compared to 2017, Hanoi University of Science and Technology's revenue has increased more than 3 times. The school's revenue has increased continuously for most of the past 7 years. Only in 2021 did revenue decrease compared to the previous year. 2023 recorded a record high revenue increase.

FPT University also recorded an increase in revenue in 2023 of about 1,000 billion VND compared to 2022. The huge increase in revenue has brought this university's total revenue to nearly 3,000 billion VND.

Van Lang University also recorded an increase of more than 500 billion VND compared to 2022.

Can Tho University's revenue decreased

Most universities with revenue of thousands of billions of VND in 2022 have increased revenue in 2023. In particular, Can Tho University's revenue in 2023 only reached 954 billion VND, down from 1,119 billion VND in 2023. With the decrease in revenue, this university left the group of thousand-billion universities.

Trillion-dollar universities recorded an increase in revenue in 2023 compared to 2022. However, this increase is not too sudden. Ton Duc Thang University alone has the same revenue in 2023 as in 2022.

2023 is also the first time that two autonomous public universities have achieved trillion-dollar revenue, namely Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) and Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry.

According to Tuoi Tre Online , some universities have inconsistent revenue reports between documents. For example, in the three public reports in 2024, the National Economics University reported revenue of only VND1,014 billion, but in the 2024 enrollment plan of this same school, revenue was recorded at VND1,187 billion.

Similarly, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the third public report recorded revenue in 2023 reaching 985 billion VND, but the enrollment plan recorded the total legal revenue/year of the school at only over 662 billion VND, a difference of up to more than 300 billion VND.
