Germany, Italy and Japan are the three largest coffee consuming markets of Vietnam, accounting for market shares of 16.6%, 9.4% and 8.2% respectively. Compared to the same period last year, the value of coffee exports in January 2025 to the German market increased by 53%, to the Italian market by 5.6%, and to the Japanese market by 10.4%.

Speaking to reporters from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai - Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA) - informed that the record high coffee price has helped the coffee industry achieve record results, bringing in more than 1 billion USD in just 1 month.
Accordingly, in February 2025 alone, Vietnam exported 193,031 tons of coffee, with an export turnover of over 1.08 billion USD. Of which, exported green coffee reached 178,047 tons, with a turnover of over 956.58 million USD, up 20.3% in volume and 107% in turnover over the same period last year. Processed coffee exported 14,984 tons, with a turnover of over 123.61 million USD, accounting for 11.4% of the total export turnover of all types of coffee.
“ Record high coffee export prices helped the Vietnamese coffee industry earn 1.08 billion USD for the first time in February 2025 alone. This result is thanks to very high coffee export prices, averaging 5,596 USD/ton,” Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai shared.
Along with the price factor, Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai said that in addition to gold, coffee is also a commodity that investors are interested in on the world coffee exchange.
Coffee exports are forecast to reach over 6 billion USD in 2025.
According to the Vietnam Coffee - Cocoa Association, in February 2025, FDI enterprises accounted for 27% of the total export volume of green coffee beans (raw coffee) and 28% of the total export turnover of green coffee beans (raw coffee); meanwhile, FDI enterprises accounted for 86% of the total export turnover of roasted, ground, instant and blended coffee.
According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in 2025, the La Nina phenomenon is expected to replace El Nino, which could affect Brazil's coffee growing areas. This increases the risk of frost, which could destroy coffee trees and seriously affect expected output. In the 2025-2026 crop year, the country's coffee output is forecast to fall to its lowest level in 3 years.
Regarding this, Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai said that around July 2025, Brazil will harvest coffee, and coffee output here will decrease, but not much. Commenting on the coffee market in the coming time, Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai said that fluctuations in the world market will be both a challenge and an opportunity for Vietnam's agricultural products, including coffee and cocoa.
However, to ensure the export output target, production must be in accordance with the correct area, planting area planning, and ensure quality and food hygiene and safety according to the partners' requirements. Vietnamese export enterprises need to combine purchasing with deep processing, and at the same time continue to diversify export markets.
“Currently, the difference between Robusta and Arabica coffee prices is around 3,000 USD. When Arabica coffee prices rise like this, roasters will focus on buying Robusta coffee for blending. Vietnam is the leading country in Robusta coffee production. Therefore, it is forecasted that Vietnamese coffee prices will continue to benefit in the coming time,” said Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien commented that with the growth rate of coffee exports as in the first two months of 2025, it is forecasted that coffee exports will reach over 6 billion USD this year. |
