Organised annually by the British Council, the Going Global global education conference is a place for international education leaders to connect, find solutions to global issues and promote the future of higher education and further education. This year's conference takes place in Edinburgh from 20-22 November, including sessions around the theme "Towards sustainable, growing and equitable partnerships in higher education".
Maddalaine Ansell, Director of Education at the British Council, said the conference was aimed at shaping the future of higher and further education. “Around the world, students and their families want to reach their full potential, educational institutions want to internationalise and raise standards, and governments need access to higher-level skills to grow their economies. Going Global aims to provide solutions to these issues,” said Ansell.
This year, a delegation from Vietnam attended the Going Global Forum and a higher education delegation to the UK. Led by Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son, 36 higher education leaders from the Ministry of Education and Training and 8 Vietnamese universities attended meetings, visits and networking events, including a bilateral meeting with the UK Department for Education and the UK Government’s Ambassador for International Education, Steve Smith.
Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son highly appreciated the UK's support in improving the quality of Vietnam's education system.
Speaking at the forum, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son said that cooperation between British and Vietnamese higher education institutions is growing in all aspects, including training, teaching, research and academic exchange.
"We appreciate the UK's support through the British Council in coordinating activities to improve the quality of the university education system in Vietnam, while creating connections for UK and Vietnamese university education, especially in the fields of digital transformation, energy transformation, improving the quality of English teaching and learning...", Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Minh Son said.
Expressing her honour at the conference with many national and international education leaders, UK Education Secretary Gillian Keegan said international cooperation plays an important role in opening up new opportunities for learners, equipping businesses with the skills they need to grow and addressing global challenges such as sustainability and discrimination.
2023 marks 50 years of UK-Vietnam diplomatic relations and 30 years of the British Council in Vietnam. The visit and work of the Vietnamese higher education delegation, therefore, creates more opportunities to strengthen the higher education partnership in both breadth and depth, while opening up opportunities for cooperation with UK universities, industries, sectors and professional bodies in teaching, learning and research.
