Attending the project announcement conference were Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Quang Buu and leaders of the Department of Construction.
The project to adjust the general planning of Hoi An City until 2035, with a vision to 2050, has the consulting unit being the Joint Venture of the National Institute of Architecture (Ministry of Construction) and AREP Villa Company (France). The project was approved by the People's Committee of Quang Nam province on March 3, 2025.

Regarding the external transport system, the project adds orientation for the urban railway route connecting Da Nang City to Hoi An City (LRT type).
Accordingly, the route connects with Da Nang's LRT line at Truong Sa Street, enters Quang Nam along DT.603B road (on the median strip), and ends at the intersection of DT.603B and Hai Ba Trung Street (planned as a foreign bus station of Hoi An city).
With this option, the project to renovate route DT603B will be concretized when there is a technical plan for the urban railway route.
According to the project, Hoi An aims to develop a smart city by 2030, orienting the development of an "eco-cultural-tourist" urban area of international stature; preserving and developing Hoi An in the direction of a "Creative City" based on the foundation of culture and heritage.
By 2050, Hoi An City will be developed as a sustainable "ecological - cultural - tourist" urban area, rich in the identity of the province and the country, becoming a smart city, synchronously connected with the smart urban area of Quang Nam province and the whole country.

Hoi An is oriented to develop the urban area to the West (Thanh Ha ward, Cam Ha commune), taking advantage of the ability to access internal and external traffic, well connected with Dien Ban town, Da Nang city.
At the same time, develop a mixed urban area with a system of public services and infrastructure to meet the needs of the community and tourists, promote economic diversification of the city; develop culture - education, health, sports, trade - services, and manufacturing industry to ensure balanced and stable economic growth.
Hoi An City currently has 9 inner-city wards, including Cam An, Cam Chau, Cam Nam, Cam Pho, Cua Dai, Minh An, Son Phong, Tan An, Thanh Ha and 4 communes Cam Ha, Cam Kim, Cam Thanh, Tan Hiep (Cu Lao Cham island commune) with a total area of 6,354.83 hectares.
It is forecasted that by 2035, Hoi An City will have about 160,000 people (about 49,900 people converted from tourists); by 2050, there will be about 230,000 people (about 94,000 people converted from tourists).
Speaking at the conference, a representative of Hoi An City's leadership said that although the project will be more or less affected by the policy of administrative unit arrangement, relevant agencies and units will urgently and seriously implement the project's content; flexibly apply it in new conditions to serve the common development of Hoi An as well as resolve many long-standing problems for people and businesses.
