(PLVN) - According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam Logistics Forum 2024 is expected to be held in Ba Ria Vung Tau, in early December 2024.
According to Mr. Tran Thanh Hai - Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam has been actively researching free trade zones around the world. This is a type of economic zone that can bring many benefits to Vietnam, contributing to promoting logistics services.
Currently, Vietnam does not have a free trade zone. The National Assembly has just approved a pilot mechanism for establishing a free trade zone in Da Nang City, which is the basis for piloting new policy research, and a premise for legalizing regulations on free trade zones for the whole country.
“In the context of Vietnam's deep integration into the regional and world economy, active participation in free trade agreements and with geo-economic advantages, the research, proposal to implement the construction, establishment and development of free trade zones should be carried out early to take advantage of opportunities, contributing to giving Vietnam's logistics service industry more opportunities to develop and participate more deeply in the global logistics supply chain,” said Mr. Hai.
According to Mr. Hai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is a province with many advantages to establish a free trade zone. It is necessary to mention Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW of the Politburo on socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Southeast region until 2030, with a vision to 2045. The Prime Minister also issued Decision No. 370/QD-TTg dated May 4, 2024 approving the Southeast region planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. The orientation is "Forming a free trade zone associated with a seaport in Cai Mep Ha area in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province".
Along with that, Decision No. 200/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister also assigned the task of "Supporting the improvement of exploitation efficiency, marketing and expanding goods sources, increasing the flow of goods at Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, making the port cluster a hub for collecting and transiting goods in the region". The early establishment of the Free Trade Zone in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province will be an important "push" to contribute to increasingly deeper international integration, attract investment capital, create resonance to unleash the existing potential of this locality.
To convey this message, gradually change the awareness of authorities and businesses related to the establishment, investment and development of free trade zones to promote trade, the Vietnam Logistics Forum 2024 (VLF 2024) organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in coordination with the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province with the theme "Free trade zones - breakthrough solutions to promote logistics growth" took place in early December 2024 in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.
