If you do not pay tuition, you must have an extension application in case of difficulty.
For a long time, universities have had clear regulations on tuition payment and announced them to students so that they are aware. These include specific regulations on the time for paying tuition, in which cases it is possible to extend and for how long, and what measures will be taken if tuition is not paid properly and is owed...
It is known that all these regulations are included in the academic regulations developed by schools based on the circular promulgating student regulations for the 2016 full-time university training program of the Ministry of Education and Training.
New students complete admission procedures and pay tuition fees at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year
Master Dang Kien Cuong, Head of Student Affairs Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, said: "Currently, the school's tuition fees are paid by semester via bank transfer. Each semester, the school will have a specific announcement. In case students have difficulties and cannot pay tuition, the school will also instruct them to apply for a tuition deferral, the extension period is 3 months."
According to Master Cuong, in case students do not pay tuition on time and do not submit a request for tuition extension, depending on the severity, they will be handled in the form of not being allowed to register for the next semester's courses, banned from taking semester exams or forced to drop out of school.
At Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, tuition fees are also collected by semester by bank transfer. Accordingly, the school will announce the teaching plan, course registration time, tuition payment time, semester start date on the Training Department website and notify students 2 months before the next semester starts.
Master Nguyen Thi Xuan Dung, Director of the school's Media Center, shared: "In case students are in especially difficult circumstances and cannot complete their tuition fees within the prescribed deadline, they need to apply for an extension and submit the application within the tuition payment deadline. Students who do not complete their tuition fees and do not apply for an extension are considered students with tuition debt."
It is known that the school's academic support department will contact students who owe tuition fees to confirm. Accordingly, the school will cancel the course registration for students who no longer continue to study at the school. As for students who cannot pay tuition fees due to difficulties, the school will advise on study loan policies or provide instructions appropriate to each student's situation.
According to Dr. Nguyen Van Kha, Deputy Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, students currently pay tuition fees by semester. In addition to direct collection, the school still encourages students to pay via bank account.
In the case of students who owe tuition fees, the school also creates conditions for students to extend if they are facing difficulties. In especially difficult cases, exemptions and reductions are also applied, depending on the level. "If students do not pay tuition fees and do not submit an extension application, they will be recorded as in debt and will not be eligible for graduation," Dr. Kha informed.
In case students are in especially difficult circumstances and cannot pay their tuition within the prescribed deadline, they need to apply for an extension and submit the application within the tuition payment deadline.
Get scholarships from paying tuition
Master Xuan Dung commented that universities often announce transparent and clear tuition policies, so students have a lot of advantages in building financial plans for their university studies.
"To avoid having to pay tuition fees or encountering difficulties in studying, taking exams, and graduating due to tuition fees, students need to discuss with their parents to proactively plan their finances throughout their university years, as well as plan their finances for each school year and each specific semester to be well prepared. During their studies and living, if there are any expenses that arise, students need to balance them with other expenses or ask their parents for advice to resolve them promptly," noted Master Dung.
In addition, if students are in difficult circumstances, Master Dung recommends that they proactively learn about and apply for scholarships to overcome difficulties, loan policies, and study support; register to work as collaborators in departments at the school, and work part-time outside to have more money to cover living expenses.
"If students cannot pay their tuition fees on time, they can apply for an extension and explain their difficulties so that the school can advise and guide them. This way, they can ensure their learning rights and complete their studies smoothly and conveniently," said Master Dung.
Master Dang Kien Cuong said that there are many reasons for tuition debt, however, paying tuition is the obligation and right of students, so students need to be responsible to themselves, their families and the school in paying tuition.
"From paying tuition fees, students also have the direct benefit of receiving scholarships. For example, students with good grades will receive scholarships equivalent to tuition fees, good students will receive scholarships higher than tuition fees, and excellent students will have enough money to live on," Master Cuong shared.
It is known that at many universities, the scholarship fund worth tens of billions of dong for students with excellent academic achievements, students with difficult circumstances... is all drawn from tuition fees. Therefore, fulfilling the obligation to pay tuition fees is also a condition for receiving scholarship benefits.
"When you feel that your family's support is not enough, you can proactively find a part-time job. If you encounter difficulties (which may be temporary), you should share them with your teachers and friends to get support. Especially your academic advisors," Master Cuong advised.
