According to information from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the scientific research topic of Applying deep learning in automatic music composition to preserve and develop Don Ca Tai Tu by students of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (Ho Chi Minh City) was selected by the Ministry of Education and Training to represent Vietnam to participate in the International Science and Technology Fair - ISEF 2025 taking place in the US from May 10 to 16.
The project "Application of deep learning in automatic music composition oriented towards the preservation and development of "Don ca tai tu" was carried out by two 11th grade IT students, Nguyen Tan Duc and Ha Nhat Bao, with the guidance of teacher Do Quoc Anh Triet, IT team of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted.
This is the only topic of Ho Chi Minh City and is one of 12 topics that won first prize in the national science and technology research competition for high school students in the 2024-2025 school year, which took place over 3 days from March 19-21.
According to project members, the goal of the topic is to preserve and promote traditional cultural values of the nation more easily from AI.
This application allows people to compose traditional music by just describing the text, after only 0.5 seconds, a complete song will be produced according to the request. The more detailed the user's request is, the closer the song will be to their wishes, it can be a request to compose traditional music with a cheerful melody, creating a feeling of a festival or royal court space...

The application consists of 3 main technical models: Sound representation suitable for deep architecture to compose traditional music; Design of text input model (requirements of music) encoded and represented numerically into complete music; Model to process features to create new music.
Regarding the future research direction, 2 students of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted said that they will focus on 2 main issues: allowing the model to create music with vocals, because vocals are an important component in the traditional music genre; allowing the model to create mixes of traditional and modern music, reaching a wider audience, especially the youth. In addition, in the future, the model will be developed to solve the problem of traditional music genres and classical music gradually disappearing due to the development of modern music.
