A representative of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City said that they are consulting on a decision to impose administrative penalties to submit to the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee before issuing them according to regulations, with a fine of 60 - 80 million VND for each theater.
The Department Inspectorate continues to summarize the inspection results of districts and towns to report to the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism according to regulations. Currently, the names of the violating cinemas have not been announced by the authorities.
Authorities suddenly checked the age of viewers watching the movie "Mai" in Ho Chi Minh City.
In addition, through the inspection process, the authorities recommended that theaters more strictly manage audience age in both online and direct ticket purchases.
"In the coming time, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City will issue a document requesting film distribution facilities and theaters to strictly comply with the Cinema Law and related legal documents. The authorities will continue to closely monitor and inspect with appropriate monitoring and inspection methods, in accordance with the provisions of the law, to protect children from the images and content of films and other artistic activities," Mr. Pham Van Dung shared.
Tran Thanh's movie "Mai" is rated 18+ but there are still people under 18 buying tickets to go to the cinema to watch the movie.
Previously on February 22, Mr. Le Thanh Liem, Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the inspection team had checked a number of film screening units, including the National Cinema Center, one of the locations attracting a large number of viewers at the present time.
The Chief Inspector of the Ministry also said that, along with direct inspection and supervision, on February 21, the Inspectorate of the Ministry sent an official dispatch to the Inspectorate of the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism and local Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, requesting to strengthen inspection and examination of compliance with legal regulations on cinema at cinemas.

Cinestar representative said that the inspection team's check on the age of moviegoers has happened many times, including twice for the movie Mai .
The representative said that this is a normal working process and can happen at any theater in the country. However, because the Cinestar theater chain has seen an increase in the number of viewers coming to see Dao, Pho and Piano in recent days, the inspection is more strict.
The representative also confirmed that they always inform the audience before buying tickets that the film has an age restriction of over 18 years old. After two surprise inspections, the authorities have not discovered any violations.
