GĐXH - Immediately after discovering Mrs. Đ sitting in the kitchen, drowsy, paralyzed on the left side of her body, her family took her to the emergency room.
On March 19, information from Phu Tho General Hospital said that recently, the unit's doctors successfully treated a stroke patient brought to the hospital during the "golden hour".
Accordingly, at around 4:30 a.m., female patient NTĐ (49 years old, in Vinh Phuc) was discovered by her family sitting down in the kitchen, drowsy, paralyzed on the left side of her body. Realizing the dangerous signs, the family immediately called the Stroke Center of Phu Tho General Hospital for support, and quickly took the patient to the emergency room.

The patient was admitted to the hospital in a state of lethargy (G13 points), difficulty speaking, turning the head and eyes to the right, left facial paralysis, complete paralysis of the left half of the body (muscle strength 0/5), NIHSS 15 points. The patient was immediately taken to the emergency vascular intervention room for thrombectomy.
Within just 15 minutes of intervention, the team removed the "culprit" causing the blockage, which were 2 pieces of blood clots, helping to completely reopen the patient's cerebral blood vessels.
During the intervention, the doctors discovered a lesion caused by a dissection of the right internal carotid artery, so they continued to place a carotid stent in the patient. The intervention was difficult because it required two specialized techniques to be performed simultaneously: middle cerebral artery thrombectomy and carotid artery stent placement.
Fortunately, immediately after the intervention, the patient regained consciousness, and the left hemiplegia had clearly improved. After only 12 hours of intervention, the patient was able to eat and perform basic activities on his own. Less than 24 hours later, the patient was able to speak clearly, stand up, and walk with support. The left muscle strength index recovered to 5/5, and the NIHSS decreased to 0 points.
This is a clear demonstration of the effectiveness of timely intervention in stroke treatment, bringing hope to thousands of patients each year.
Benefits of stroke emergency care during the golden hour
MSc. Dr. Phan Ngoc Nhu - Head of the Department of Subacute Neurological Treatment of Stroke, Stroke Center, Phu Tho General Hospital said that the case of NTD patient was very lucky to be discovered and brought to the hospital for timely intervention in the second hour after the stroke (the golden time for effective intervention). Thanks to that, the patient has recovered well, and the prognosis is that he can soon return to normal life.

The golden time for stroke emergency treatment is usually calculated from 3 to 4.5 hours from when the patient first shows symptoms of stroke such as slurred speech, difficulty speaking, limb weakness, crooked mouth, one-sided facial deviation, headache, dizziness, etc. In some cases, the golden time for stroke emergency treatment can last up to 24 hours from when signs of stroke appear. However, the patient should be intervened as soon as possible.
" Stroke emergency treatment within the golden time helps increase the patient's chance of survival, because if there is just a 1-minute delay, the patient can lose nearly 2 million brain cells. The best stroke intervention and treatment measures also need to be applied appropriately within this time frame ," said Dr. Nhu.
Therefore, doctors recommend that as soon as people discover themselves or those around them showing signs such as crooked mouth, slurred speech, weak limbs, etc., they should immediately call an ambulance and take the patient to a medical facility specializing in stroke as soon as possible. Any delay can lead to irreversible brain damage.
In addition, to prevent stroke, people should control risk factors such as blood pressure, blood fat, blood sugar, maintain a healthy diet, increase exercise and stay away from tobacco, alcohol, stimulants, etc.
