The 15th National Assembly has just passed a Resolution on electing Mr. To Lam to the position of President for the 2021-2026 term.
This morning (May 22), at the 7th Session, the 15th National Assembly completed the process of electing the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term.
As a result, Mr. To Lam - Politburo member, Minister of Public Security, XV National Assembly Delegate of Hung Yen province was elected by the National Assembly to hold the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term.
The resolution on electing Mr. To Lam to the position was also passed by the National Assembly delegates with 472/473 delegates participating in the vote in favor (accounting for 96.92% of the total number of National Assembly delegates).
The new President took an oath of allegiance to the Fatherland, the People and the Constitution before the National Assembly upon taking office.
President To Lam
General To Lam was born in 1957 in Nghia Tru commune, Van Giang district, Hung Yen province; he is a Professor of Security Science and Doctor of Law. He is a member of the Party Central Committee, 11th, 12th, 13th tenures; a member of the Politburo, 12th, 13th tenures and a National Assembly delegate, 14th, 15th tenures.
From 1988-1993, Mr. To Lam was Deputy Head and then Head of Political Protection Department I, Ministry of Public Security. During the next 13 years, he held the position of Deputy Head of Political Protection Department I and then Head of Political Protection Department III, Ministry of Public Security.
From 2006-2009, Mr. To Lam was Deputy Director General of the General Department of Security, Ministry of Public Security. In the next 2 years, he was in charge and then held the position of Director General of the General Department of Security I, Ministry of Public Security.
Mr. To Lam held the position of Deputy Minister of Public Security from August 2010 to April 2016. After that, he held the position of Minister of Public Security until now.
