"We are fortunate that the Vietnam-US relationship has benefited greatly from bipartisan support. Bipartisanship means that, regardless of whether it is the Democratic Party or the Republican Party, over the past 30 years, they have always supported the Vietnam-US relationship. These two parties and the US government have together supported a strong, independent, prosperous and resilient Vietnam. Therefore, regardless of who wins today's election, the strong relationship between our two countries will remain and grow stronger," Ambassador Knapper said on November 6 at the "Following the 2024 US Presidential Election" event held in Hanoi. This year, the event organized by the US Embassy attracted more than 200 participants, including many students and young people. The event provided information about the US electoral system through a mock vote. Attendees watched the election results on US television together.

According to Ambassador Knapper, the goal of the event is to explain and provide more knowledge to Vietnamese people about the US electoral system and the most important event in the US every four years. This year, the race between the two Republican candidates Donald Trump and the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is very fierce and unpredictable. The US Ambassador said that election day is a very important day for the people of this country, the fact that voters go to the polls shows the participation of the American people in the political process of this country. Mr. Knapper emphasized that the relationship between Vietnam and the US has been very good over the past 30 years and he is full of hope for an even better prospect in the future. "We believe that Vietnam's success is America's success and vice versa. So we stand together, we move forward together. We will stand with you and you will stand with us. We are friends, we are partners, and we have a lot of work to do together to move forward," Ambassador Knapper said. According to the diplomat, 2025 will mark an important event for the two countries, which is 30 years of normalized relations. Mr. Knapper emphasized that the US and Vietnam have the potential to cooperate further in many areas of green economy, education and training, high technology, health and healthcare... "These are all things that Vietnam wants, but these are things that the US supports. These are also things that the US stands shoulder to shoulder with Vietnam for the two countries to succeed together. And so, I hope that next year we will make more progress on the solid foundation that we have established," he emphasized.

Participating in the event, student My Tam from the Academy of Journalism and Communication said: "The US is a big country and the US election can affect the country's future policies and the world in general. Therefore, many people are interested in this event". Tam admitted that she did not have much knowledge about the US election before coming to the event, but learned more information when participating in activities organized by the US Embassy. My Tam also voted at a simulated ballot box, considering it a quite interesting experience.
