Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Digital and Emerging Technology and Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Technology, will visit Vietnam from January 5-6.

Information about the visit was announced by the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Viet Nam.
This is Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill's first state visit to Vietnam since assuming the role in June 2022.
The visit aims to promote high-level discussions on digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) governance as well as Vietnam’s initiatives in these emerging areas, including efforts to build a national innovation ecosystem; enhance understanding and implementation of the Global Digital Compact to provide a comprehensive framework for global governance of digital technology and AI.
Notably, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Technology will meet and discuss with stakeholders, including young people, to better understand the needs of groups in Vietnamese society in inclusive digital transformation and the use of AI with ethical standards.
During the two-day visit, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Technology will have high-level meetings with leaders of the Government, National Assembly, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and relevant ministries and sectors.
Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill was also the keynote speaker at the Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on AI Governance (co-organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the United Nations in Vietnam) and the Youth-Led Dialogue on Digital Transformation and AI Governance (organized by the United Nations in Vietnam), with the participation of creators, innovators, researchers, academics and students.
Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill's visit highlights Vietnam's growing role in the global dialogue on AI, focusing on the implementation, governance and international cooperation on ethical AI, as well as the role of the United Nations in shaping the future of AI and equality of opportunity for all in this field.
