Former President of the Football Association of Thailand Accused of Selling Team Data to Malaysia

Along with the scandal of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) owing 270 billion VND, the media in the land of golden pagodas also reported another negative incident of former FAT president Somyot Pumpanmuang.

The scandal involving FAT broke out four days ago, when the current FAT president, Ms. Nualphan Lamsam (commonly known as Madam Pang) held a press conference to announce the debt situation of the Thai football headquarters.

Specifically, FAT lost the lawsuit against Siam Sport Syndicate Public Company Limited in the case of canceling the live broadcasting contract, resulting in the compensation that FAT had to pay up to 360 million baht (270 billion VND).

Not only that, Madam Pang also accused the former FAT president of leaving behind another debt of up to 105 billion VND, which Mr. Pumpanmuang borrowed from FIFA.

In a conversation with Thai media, Madam Pang burst into tears when she had to face the problems left by her predecessor.

In addition, Thailand's Manager Daily 360 also reported another incident that could cause more trouble for former president Pumpanmuang.

"Former president Pumpanmuang sold data about the national team as well as the Thai League to a company in Malaysia. This contract lasts until 2028, Madam Pang tried to buy it back but was unsuccessful," wrote Manager Daily 360 .

This information is currently unclear. It is possible that FAT has signed a contract with a data analysis company, and this is common in today's top football world.

However, when the media negatively described the former FAT president as "selling national team data" to Malaysia, Thai fans were easily upset, because the Malaysian team is truly the "nemesis" of Thai football.

Throughout the history of confrontation, Malaysia is better than Thailand with 44 wins, 31 draws and 29 losses. Under Mr. Pumpanmuang's presidency (2016 to 2024), Malaysia won 4/7 matches against Thailand.
