The invitation of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and General Secretary and President To Lam to choose China as the first destination of his overseas trip just two weeks after taking up his new position showed the importance that the senior leaders of the two parties and two countries attach to the bilateral relationship.

Emotional visit to Guangzhou

On the morning of August 18, General Secretary - President To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, arrived in Guangzhou, starting the first activities within the framework of his state visit to China. Emotions and nostalgia were recorded during the activities of the General Secretary - President in Guangzhou. That was a visit to the relic of the headquarters of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association, where 100 years ago President Ho Chi Minh's footprints were left when he was active in the revolution in Guangzhou from 1924 to 1927, and the tomb of martyr Pham Hong Thai - who created the "Sa Dien bomb sound" that shocked the time, demonstrating the indomitable patriotism of the Vietnamese people in 1924. That was also a meeting between General Secretary - President To Lam with representatives of friendship organizations, relatives of revolutionary generals, experts and advisors who had helped Vietnam in the resistance wars... At the meeting with Chinese intellectuals, not only the delegates, General Secretary - President To Lam also expressed his emotion when the first stop of the high-ranking delegation of the Party and State of Vietnam during their visit to China was Guangzhou. Because this is where Uncle Ho set foot after 13 years of leaving to find a way to save the country, it is where he prepared the theory and organization for the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam. This is also where the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association was established, training elite leaders of the Communist Party of Vietnam such as Le Hong Phong, Ho Tung Mau and "two-nation general" Nguyen Son. General Secretary - President To Lam affirmed that the history of fighting side by side between revolutionaries of Vietnam and China is a shining example in the revolutionary struggle movement of the world proletariat, laying a solid foundation for the friendship between Vietnam and China. He expressed his full confidence that every delegate present at this meeting, no matter who they are and what position they hold, has a great common wish that the Vietnam - China relationship "will be forever green, forever sustainable".

High expectations

Chinese media paid special attention to the visit of General Secretary - President To Lam, reporting fully and solemnly on the activities of him and the high-ranking delegation right from the moment of arrival. Many Chinese experts studying Vietnam also expressed optimism about the prospects of relations between the two countries. In a commentary in the Beijing newspaper on the afternoon of August 18, Professor Trieu Ve Hoa, director of the Center for Research on China's Relations with Neighboring Countries at Fudan University, said that the first visit of General Secretary - President To Lam to China showed the important role of China in Vietnam's foreign policy strategy. He affirmed that Vietnam and China are both socialist countries, carrying out socialist construction and reform and innovation. Not only trade, the theoretical exchanges and cooperation between the two parties and countries are also very profound and effective. Therefore, he expects the visit to be an opportunity for the two sides to discuss the fields of socialist construction, economic and trade cooperation and anti-corruption. In the Chinese version of Sputnik, expert Chu Nhung, a senior researcher at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at the People's University of China, believes that the visit of the Vietnamese leader has profound political significance because China's strengthening of close and friendly relations with Vietnam, an influential country in Southeast Asia, will play an important role in the long term for China's relations with ASEAN. Observers also believe that the visit will contribute to continuing the close exchanges between the two countries' senior leaders, establishing a personal relationship between General Secretary - President To Lam and General Secretary - President of China Xi Jinping. These will certainly be solid foundations to strongly promote substantive cooperation in economics, trade and investment between the two countries in the coming time.

The welcoming ceremony took place today.

Concluding his activities in Guangzhou, General Secretary - President To Lam and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, arrived in Beijing on the evening of August 18. During the visit, today (August 19), General Secretary - President To Lam will attend a state-level welcoming ceremony hosted by General Secretary - President of China Xi Jinping. The two leaders will then have important talks. It is expected that during the day, General Secretary - President To Lam will also meet with key Chinese leaders.

China's opening will bring many opportunities to Vietnam.

The fact that General Secretary and President To Lam chose China as the first country he visited after taking office as General Secretary fully demonstrated his importance to developing relations between the two parties and countries of China and Vietnam, and also demonstrated that China and Vietnam consider developing China-Vietnam relations a priority direction in their respective foreign policies. China hopes that through this visit, the traditional friendship between China and Vietnam will continue, promoting the two countries to join hands in following the path of socialist modernization with their own characteristics, jointly promoting the development of the world socialist cause, and contributing to peace, stability and development of the region and the world. Last July, the 3rd Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China adopted a decision on further deepening comprehensive reform and promoting Chinese-style modernization. This sends a strong signal to the world that China will firmly hold high the banner of reform and opening up in the new era. Opening up is a prominent feature of China's modernization, and China's door will only open wider. In the above decision, the word "reform" appears with a high frequency of 145 times, the word "opening up" appears 35 times; more than 300 important reform measures are proposed related to institutions, mechanisms, and systems, demonstrating China's determination and firm confidence in thoroughly implementing reform. China's opening up will bring more development opportunities to neighboring countries, including Vietnam. Under the strategic guidance of the senior leaders of the two parties and two countries, China and Vietnam jointly declared the building of a China-Vietnam Community of Shared Future of strategic significance, defining a new historical position for bilateral relations, opening a new chapter for China-Vietnam relations in the new era. With the joint efforts of China and Vietnam, high-quality agricultural products from the southern region of Vietnam such as durian, banana, passion fruit, etc. are increasingly appearing on the dining tables and in the fruit baskets of Chinese people; Soc Trang pia cake and Khanh Hoa bird's nest are increasingly becoming "online famous" dishes that Chinese tourists must "check-in" when coming to Vietnam. In the near future, fresh coconut and frozen durian from Vietnam will also be officially exported to China, bringing benefits to the people of the two countries. China is willing to continue to deepen cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of agricultural products, infrastructure connection, etc., and at the same time effectively implement the Belt and Road Initiative within the framework of "two corridors, one belt". We also want to strengthen cooperation in road, air and railway transport between China and Vietnam; promote comprehensive connection of road, sea and air networks; actively contribute to the building of the China-Vietnam Community of Shared Future of strategic significance.
