In order to be proactive in forest fire prevention and fighting (PCCCR), enhance leadership and management capacity, coordination and mobilization of forces according to the "4 on-site" motto, proactively respond promptly, and minimize damage caused by forest fires, Con Dao district (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) organized a district-level forest fire fighting drill in 2023.
300 officers and soldiers of the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police, along with military units, forest rangers, militia and self-defense forces, mass forest protection groups, medical teams, doctors and hundreds of firefighting vehicles and equipment were mobilized to participate in the exercise.
In the hypothetical situation, while on patrol, the Forest Rangers discovered a forest fire at the end of Ben Dam route, Con Dao district, so they quickly mobilized forces and fire-fighting equipment to the scene to control the fire.
However, due to hot weather conditions and strong winds, the fire spread more and more, reaching a height of 10m to 15m, so the Head of the Forest Protection Department reported to the Head of the Steering Committee of the Sustainable Forestry Development Program of Con Dao district to report the fire and request the mobilization of forces and means in the district to participate in fire fighting.
Faced with the above situation, the Steering Committee of the Sustainable Forestry Development Program of Con Dao district mobilized 300 people including officers and soldiers of the fire prevention and fighting police, military units, forest rangers, militia and self-defense forces, mass forest protection groups in residential areas, medical teams, doctors... along with 3 fire trucks, 2 water tankers and hundreds of fire-fighting vehicles and equipment to quickly arrive at the scene to deploy plans to handle the fire.
After two hours of firefighting efforts, the fire was completely controlled, ensuring the safety of people and vehicles participating in firefighting. Safely protecting the existing forest area.
Mr. Nguyen Khac Pho, Director, Head of the Forest Protection Department of Con Dao National Park, said that Con Dao is an island district located far from the mainland, with a total natural area of about 76km2 but up to 80% of the area is forest. Forests have great value for socio-economic development, national defense - security, environmental protection, climate regulation, and freshwater regulation on the island. In addition, Con Dao forest also has a rich and diverse flora and fauna. This is a strength for the locality to develop eco-tourism. Over the years, the Party Committee, Government, army and people of Con Dao district have always done a good job of forest protection, forest fire prevention and fighting, and not allowing forest fires to occur. Therefore, the district-level forest fire fighting drill in 2023 aims to continue to propagate and raise awareness of forest fire prevention and fighting for all people and tourists. Practice coordination and cooperation plans between agencies, units, and residential areas in the district in fire fighting.
The drills showed that the firefighting forces had mastered the drill plan and scenario and strictly followed the orders of the drill command. The forest firefighting operations and techniques were correct and accurate. The coordination between the forces and means was smooth. Communication was ensured to be smooth.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Truong Giang, Captain of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team of Con Dao District Police, said that thanks to careful preparation in all aspects and close coordination between forces, the 2023 district-level forest fire fighting drill in Con Dao district took place as planned, ensuring absolute safety for people and property.
Through the drill, the locality will be proactive in forest fire prevention and fighting, helping forces become familiar with and proficient in using the tools, machinery and equipment provided for forest fire fighting. At the same time, this is also an opportunity for Con Dao district to review, supplement and perfect plans for fire prevention, fighting and forest protection to suit the actual situation in the locality.
