The system of antiques is Chu Dau ceramics originating from Chu Dau ceramic village (Nam Sach, Hai Duong) was brought back from abroad by a private collector and is currently on display at Hai Phong Museum.
Blue and white ceramic vases, plates, teapots... are Chu Dau ceramic antiques currently on display at Hai Phong City Museum.
The person who collected the above Chu Dau ceramic artifacts is Mr. Tran Dinh Thang, 65 years old, a business owner in Hai Phong. In his collection, Mr. Tran Dinh Thang also owns a number of artifacts recognized by the Prime Minister as national treasures.
The Chu Dau ceramic antiques are part of Mr. Thang’s An Bien collection. Visitors to the Hai Phong Museum are amazed by the beauty, historical value and vivid motifs on each artifact.
Close-up of a large plate, 36 cm in diameter, decorated with daisies on the outer rim, and inside is an image of a swan (or phoenix) spreading its wings. It is known that this plate was purchased by collector Adrian Zecha in 1977 and was purchased by Mr. Tran Dinh Thang at an auction in Singapore at the end of May 2024.
Chu Dau ceramics of Hai Duong is a high-class fine art ceramic line in Vietnam with about 600 years of history. Many Chu Dau ceramic antiques are on display at 46 famous museums in 32 countries around the world. In Vietnam , in addition to Hai Duong Museum, Hai Phong Museum, many Chu Dau ceramic artifacts are also on display at Hoi An Trade Ceramics Museum (Hoi An City, Quang Nam) and many other large and small museums or are in private collections.
Chu Dau ceramic kettle at Hai Phong Museum is 18.5 cm high, the body of the kettle has motifs of lotus, chrysanthemum, water clouds... The kettle is still quite intact from shape, motifs to glaze color.
Another Chu Dau plate in the collection has floral motifs on the outer rim and carp in the middle. Originating from the Hai Duong countryside in the 14th and 15th centuries, most Chu Dau ceramic products have motifs reflecting the daily life of farmers, motifs close to rural life.
An intact dwarf cylindrical box with fish, butterflies and water wave motifs. The box is 19 cm in diameter and 11 cm high, with a matching lid and body that can be opened and closed.
Flared mouth vase, 17 cm high, slim neck, flat shape. All Chu Dau ceramic artifacts in the collection on display at Hai Phong Museum are still quite intact, showing very high value in terms of aesthetics and history.
The blue and white ceramic vase is the sixth and last item in the Chu Dau ancient ceramic collection of collector Tran Dinh Thang. The 19 cm high vase has a broken body and has been restored. However, the glaze is still beautiful and clear, the motifs are sharp. The neck of the vase is decorated with banana leaves, the mouth is painted with coins.
It is known that Mr. Tran Dinh Thang did not disclose the amount of money spent to own the 6 antiques mentioned above, but said that the purchase price was 7-10 times higher than the initial estimate. The fact that a private collector spent a large amount of money to own the Chu Dau Hai Duong ceramic collection shows that Chu Dau ceramics always have great appeal and the strong vitality of this ancient ceramic line.
