Huong Loc hybrid wild boar breeding and development cooperative has revenue of billions of dong each year.

Improve efficiency

The Huong Loc hybrid wild boar breeding and development cooperative (in Huong Loc commune, Phu Loc district) was established 2 years ago with 5 participating households, with a total initial investment capital of 500 million VND. Up to now, this cooperative has expanded the total barn area to about 3,000m2; the average revenue reaches 1.2 billion VND/year.

Mr. Nguyen Van Pha, a typical member of the Huong Loc Hybrid Wild Boar Breeding and Development Cooperative, said that after joining the cooperative, his family invested in a barn area of about 400 square meters. From the beginning of the breeding, his family only had 4 sows and more than 30 pigs. Now, the total number of sows has increased to 24 and more than 250 pigs are sold to the market per year, with an estimated income of 550 million VND per year.

“Originally a poor household, after receiving the attention and encouragement of the local Farmers’ Association, along with the help of the farmer members, I was able to implement a livestock farming model that brings in high income. With this linkage model, it has opened up conditions for members in the group to have the opportunity to get rich...”, Mr. Pha shared.

The Hoa Loc FSC Forest Certification Association, owned by Mr. Ho Da The, a farmer member in Loc Bon commune, Phu Loc district, is also a typical unit in production linkage. Faced with the current situation of traditional forest planting following a 4-5 year business cycle, wood products are only sold as raw materials for paper at low prices, with unstable output leading to low economic efficiency from planted forests. With the propaganda and mobilization of local farmers' associations, Mr. Ho Da The took the lead in mobilizing local forest households to establish the Hoa Loc FSC Forest Certification Association, with 25 members, with a total forest area of over 189 hectares. After 7 years of establishment, all FSC plantations of the association members were exploited, achieving an average timber yield of 200-220m3/ha, the proportion of rim wood increased from 60-70%, bringing the value of large timber plantations with FSC certification to 250-300 million VND/ha. Small timber plantations with 5 years of exploitation only yielded a profit of about 80-90 million VND/ha, while large timber plantations with FSC certification were much more effective. Therefore, after only a few years, the association expanded to 55 members, with a total area of nearly 550ha of FSC certified plantations.

According to Mr. Ho Da The, the association model brings higher economic efficiency to participating members. Thereby, it has encouraged people to boldly borrow capital to expand the area, contributing significantly to the development of production and business in the direction of large scale, creating regular jobs for farmer members in the area.

New opportunities for farmers

According to the Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Hue City, Mr. Nguyen Chi Quang, the establishment of branches and professional Farmers' Association groups to establish cooperatives and cooperative groups at all levels of Farmers' Associations has always received the attention of the leadership of Party committees at all levels and the coordination and support of authorities at all levels. Every year, Farmers' Associations at all levels sign programs and plans to coordinate with departments, branches and sectors to organize guidance on documents and procedures for establishing cooperatives and cooperative groups; guide the development of geographical indications, trademarks and brands of agricultural products; participate in trade fairs to introduce products, link with cooperatives, enterprises, supermarkets and wholesale markets to expand the market for agricultural products in and outside the province.

Up to now, the whole city has established 30 vocational HND branches with 446 members, 265 vocational HND groups with 2,317 members... With the advantage of a compact organizational model, moderate number of members, strict operating regulations, appropriate and practical activities, the branches and groups have created favorable conditions to help members apply scientific and technical advances in production and business, contributing to job creation, increasing income and improving the lives of farmers.

The next advantage is that members have the same type of production, so it is convenient to exchange production and business experiences, information on market prices, effective production solutions, agree on investment in production, support each other in breeds, capital, especially close links in production... Many effective associations can develop into cooperatives. Typically, the eel farming association in Vinh My commune has 25 members, annual revenue of 1.2 billion VND; the mixed farming association in Sia town has 20 members, annual income of over 1.3 billion VND...

The models of branches and professional farmer groups are being strongly developed by farmer groups at all levels, attracting a large number of members and farmers to participate. Thereby, it has strongly changed the awareness of farmer members, helping them clearly see the urgency of developing large-scale production, linking and cooperating, in order to promote the shift from traditional agricultural production to high-tech application, contributing to improving productivity, output, value, helping farmers gradually get rich...
