Lisa's "Rockstar" Is Fresh, But Not Breakthrough
After a long wait, the musical work that Lisa - the youngest member of Blackpink - cherished called Rockstar has officially been released.
It can be said that Rockstar attracted a lot of attention from the BLINK community (Blackpink fans - PV) in particular and K-pop lovers in general, because this is the first song in 2024 marking Lisa's return, since she announced the establishment of her own company.
It is undeniable that the Thai singer put a lot of effort into this music product, from investing in a unique look, eye-catching costumes, to spending a lot of money to make stores in one of the busiest areas in Bangkok close early to serve the filming.
However, after Rockstar was released, many comments said that this song was a "flop", and despite her efforts, Lisa could not create a musical work with enough influence like YG did.
New Musical Express (NME), a famous British website about music, movies, games and culture, commented on Lisa's Rockstar. This website commented that Rockstar is a bombastic song with material not too different from the single album Lalisa that the female singer released three years ago.
In addition, the star-shaped outfit that Lisa wore in the MV was also accused of plagiarism. On the social media platform Xiaohongshu, also known as "China's Instagram", Yang Yue, a makeup artist and fashion designer, said that Lisa's outfit was similar to Yang's creation from 2020.
The design, completed while Yang was studying for his master's degree at the University of the Arts London, was inspired by Tang Dynasty, China's first heavy metal band from Beijing.
“The star represents Beijing and the wild design reflects the spirit of rock music,” Yang said on Xiaohongshu. “Not only are they copied, but the cut on the costume is also very bad,” Yang wrote.
