The Cupertino (US) giant has announced its business results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2024, statistics ending on December 30, 2023, according to Neowin .
In a press release, CEO Cook said: Apple’s installed base of active devices now exceeds 2.2 billion, reaching an all-time high across all products. And as customers begin to experience Apple Vision Pro, the company is committed to pursuing breakthrough innovation.
More than 2.2 billion Apple devices are in use worldwide
The latest figure is up about 10% since Apple last reported the number of devices in use. In February 2023, Apple revealed that it had 2 billion devices in use worldwide. According to data from Statista, the number of Apple devices in use reached 1 billion in 2016.
The new data comes as Apple prepares to ship a new class of devices, starting with the Vision Pro headset. The mixed reality headset was first announced at last year’s WWDC (Apple Worldwide Developers Conference) keynote and went up for pre-order on January 19.
Apple has announced more than 600 new apps and games for the Vision Pro headset, which is compatible with the more than 1 million apps and games available for iPad. However, the list of compatible Vision Pros does not include popular names like Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube.
During the earnings call, CEO Cook also talked about Apple’s ongoing work on artificial intelligence and generative AI without providing any specifics. Previous rumors have suggested that iOS 18 could be a major update in the coming years, with some AI features.
The Apple CEO said the company will continue to invest in many future technologies. That includes artificial intelligence, Apple continues to spend a lot of time and effort on it and will share details about that ongoing work later this year.
