From small communities to large cities, energy transition stories are changing lives, improving health, creating new economic opportunities and enhancing quality of life.

Bhutan: A happy country thanks to renewable energy

Bhutan, a small country nestled in the Himalayas, is renowned not only for its Gross National Happiness index but also for its achievements in the energy transition. With about 70% of its land area covered in forests and abundant hydropower capacity, Bhutan has aimed to become the only country in the world to produce 100% of its energy from renewable sources.

Switching to renewable energy not only helps Bhutan maintain environmental sustainability, but also directly contributes to improving people's lives, providing clean energy and boosting the economy. The quality of life of Bhutanese people is improved not only on a material level but also on a spiritual level, because they are living in a clean environment, less affected by pollution.

Sustainable agriculture is a key component of Bhutan's carbon-negative strategy. The country promotes organic farming practices that minimize the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.

According to Bhutan’s Ministry of Information, cars, trucks, and other vehicles are responsible for more than 45 percent of Bhutan’s greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, the country is actively promoting the use of electric vehicles as an alternative to conventional fossil fuel-powered vehicles.

Denmark is at the forefront of wind energy development.

Meanwhile, Denmark is a leader in wind energy development. With wind turbines spread across land and sea, Denmark has become a model for a country with a dominant share of renewable energy in its national energy mix. Currently, about 50% of Denmark's electricity is supplied by wind energy and the country has been successful in exporting wind energy technology globally.

Switching to wind power has helped Denmark reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create thousands of new jobs in the renewable energy industry.

Thanks to the development of the wind energy industry, the quality of life of the Danish people has been improved, especially in the field of environmental protection and the creation of job opportunities for the younger generation. Denmark has not only become a center of wind energy but also promoted the transition to a green, sustainable economy.

With their experience and advanced technology, Danish companies are actively contributing to Vietnam’s energy transition. The development of green energy projects not only brings economic benefits but also contributes to the sustainable development goals of both countries.

India sees solar power as a focus

In rural India, access to clean and sustainable energy remains a major challenge. However, energy transformation initiatives are making significant changes. One notable solution is the use of biomass energy, which converts agricultural waste and organic materials into energy.

Biomass energy projects not only help reduce environmental pollution but also create an additional source of income for farmers. This is a sustainable solution, helping to reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources and creating economic development opportunities for rural communities.

In particular, in the energy transition strategy to address the climate change crisis, India considers solar power as a focus. Under the scorching sun of the western desert of India, the seemingly endless fields of solar panels, combined with wind turbines, create an impressive scene. This is the typical image of the world's largest renewable energy plant project under construction in Khavda, Gujarat state.

The project is expected to be a major turning point in India's renewable energy sector. The solar project is part of India's strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2070.

Energy transition - the inevitable

Vietnam is steadfastly taking steps to implement the commitments it made at COP26. The goal is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. To respond to climate change, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that green development and energy transition are indispensable, cannot be left out, and must be done effectively.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Pham Tien Dat, Principal of the University of Finance and Marketing, it is necessary to build a high-quality workforce with the technical skills to operate new technology; and the ability to learn and absorb transferred technology in the shortest time. This is a key factor in the clean energy transition.

Mr. Pham Tien Dat commented: "Vietnam has great potential for clean energy such as wind, solar, and even tidal and geothermal energy. To liberate these energy sources, serve production and people's lives, and gradually replace fossil energy, there needs to be clear, long-term and sustainable mechanisms and policies from state management agencies."

Stories from life about energy transition not only reflect positive changes in the use of renewable energy but also show its far-reaching impact on people's quality of life.

From Bhutan with renewable energy, Denmark with wind energy, to India with biomass and solar energy, each country has found suitable solutions to improve the quality of life, protect the environment and create sustainable development opportunities. It can be said that energy transition is not only a technological trend but also an important factor in building a brighter future, including Vietnam.
