Converting 2.5 hectares of forest to expand Deo Ngang tunnel

(NLDO) - The Deo Ngang Tunnel expansion project is expected to meet the increasing traffic demand on National Highway 1, the section passing through the two provinces of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh.

The People's Committee of Quang Binh province has just issued a decision to change the purpose of using more than 2.5 hectares of planted forest to another purpose to carry out the construction of Deo Ngang tunnel under the project to upgrade and expand a number of bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1.

The location of the change of purpose is in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province.

Specifically, the purpose of using more than 2.5 hectares of planted forests was changed, including: more than 2.4 hectares of production forests and 0.04 hectares of forests outside the planning of 3 types of forests originating from production forests. Located at 23 lots in plot 1, sub-area 150 and plot 1, sub-area 151, Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district.

The People's Committee of Quang Binh province assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to direct relevant agencies and units to closely manage and monitor the conversion of forest use purposes according to regulations. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment advises on the implementation of contents related to planning and land use plans, ensuring unity and synchronization during the project implementation process.

Previously, the Ministry of Transport approved the project to upgrade and expand bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1 with a total investment of nearly 2,000 billion VND. This includes the Deo Ngang tunnel - the border between Quang Binh and Ha Tinh.

Accordingly, a new 555m long tunnel will be built to the west of the current tunnel, with a width of 10.5m, including 4 lanes. The tunnel is expected to be completed in 2025. When completed, Deo Ngang tunnel will operate 2 parallel tunnels with a total roadbed width of up to 20.5m, providing 4 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles.

The Deo Ngang Tunnel expansion project, when completed, is expected to meet the increasing traffic demand on National Highway 1, through Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces. In addition to reducing traffic pressure, the project is also considered an important driving force, contributing to socio-economic development and ensuring security and defense for the Central region.
