In order to join hands to protect the environment, recently the Volunteer Group "For a Green Ha Long" has mobilized the enthusiastic participation of the community in environmental protection work, especially the environment of Ha Long Bay.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dang Huy, Center for Natural Resources and Environment Monitoring, Department of Agriculture and Environment; Head of the Volunteer Group "For a Green Ha Long", in order to join hands to protect the environment, especially the environment of Ha Long Bay, he initially set up the Facebook "For a Green Ha Long", aiming to attract everyone to participate in practical actions to protect the environment, focusing on the environment of Ha Long. On a voluntary basis, in May 2022, the Volunteer Group "For a Green Ha Long" was established with 20 members, mainly young people from a number of agencies and units in the province and city. After a period of operation, the number of members participating in the group increased and the number of people participating in garbage collection sessions increased day by day. Up to now, the group has attracted nearly 600 people of all ages to regularly participate in the group's activities. Every Saturday and Sunday, the group mobilizes members to collect trash at beaches in Ha Long, especially beaches in Bai Chay and Hon Gai areas, and some crowded public places such as parks... A group activity usually lasts about 2 hours; tools such as gloves, bags, trash pickers... are all contributed by group members for use.
Ms. Pham Thi Hien (Zone 6, Hong Ha Ward, Ha Long City) said: “I often exercise at Hon Gai beach area in the early morning and often see groups, mostly young people, participating in collecting garbage on the beach and on the coastal road. Everyone collects garbage and puts it in bags very carefully, and brings it to the designated garbage collection point. The actions of the young people are truly commendable. To educate my children about environmental protection, every Saturday and Sunday I often call my grandchildren to wake up early to join the environmental sanitation with my brothers and sisters. My 5-year-old nephew is very excited to participate in this meaningful activity…”.
Not only participating in garbage collection every Saturday and Sunday, every time the province or city launches movements to join hands for the environment, the peak of cleaning the sea... the members of the volunteer group "For a green Ha Long" enthusiastically respond. Typically, after storm No. 3 in 2024, Ha Long as well as many localities in the province were flooded with garbage, the group members actively joined forces to clean up fallen trees, collect garbage, floating foam buoys on the sea, help people clean up their houses after the storm...
Head of the "For a Green Ha Long" Volunteer Group, Nguyen Dang Huy, shared: The group's activities in recent times have received recognition and support from many people. The group has also received attention and support from environmental companies in terms of tools and garbage collection vehicles, creating convenience for the group to operate more and more effectively... In response to the increasing demand for environmental protection, the "For a Green Ha Long" Volunteer Group plans to organize propaganda about the group's activities to primary and secondary schools, thereby mobilizing the participation of students in environmental protection work. Through this, it also contributes to further strengthening education work, raising awareness as well as responsibility of each individual, especially young people in the work of preserving the natural environment and the surrounding living environment.
Although people's awareness of environmental protection is increasingly raised, there are still some people and groups of tourists who litter in the wrong places, especially at tourist attractions... Hopefully, each person protects the environment as a way to protect their loved ones and their home so that not only Ha Long but also every place we live or visit is always green, clean and beautiful.
