National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man receives Cuban Ambassador

On the morning of November 13, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man received Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen to say goodbye on the occasion of the end of his term in Vietnam.

The National Assembly Chairman expressed his pleasure at meeting Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen at the National Assembly House; congratulated the Ambassador on successfully completing his term of office in Vietnam; and highly appreciated the Ambassador's important role in actively contributing to the political, diplomatic, socio-economic and cultural relations between the two countries in recent times.

The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that Vietnam always remembers Cuba's sincere and wholehearted assistance, both spiritually and materially, to Vietnam in the struggle for national liberation as well as in the current cause of national construction and defense. This is a special relationship with high political trust, always a model in international relations between Vietnam and Cuba.

Through the Ambassador, the National Assembly Chairman sent condolences and regards to the leaders of the Party, State and people of Cuba over the severe impacts of the two storms Oscar (October 20), Rafael (November 7) and the earthquake in the eastern region of Cuba (November 10).

The National Assembly Chairman said that recently, Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi) also caused severe damage in 26 northern provinces and cities of Vietnam with 318 deaths, 26 missing people, more than 1,900 injured people; economic damage of about 81,000 billion VND; GDP growth in 2024 decreased by about 0.15%. Although both countries are facing difficulties due to natural disasters and common difficulties due to the volatile world situation, the Vietnam - Cuba relationship has been constantly promoted, consolidated, and increased exchanges of delegations at all levels and high levels of the two countries. In particular, the State visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam in September 2024; the working visit to Cuba by Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai in September 2024; the working visit to Vietnam by Chairman of the National Assembly of the People's Power, President of the Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez in early November 2024.

Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen thanked National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man for taking the time to receive him; thanked Vietnam for its support for Cuba in the past time as well as the sincere feelings that Vietnam always gave to the Ambassador during his term of office; affirmed that despite economic difficulties and the impact of the embargo, the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba has continuously developed and achieved many positive results. The relationship between the two parties has been strengthened, especially the State visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam in September 2024, which was an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries. In addition, the cooperative relationship between the two governments, ministries, departments and branches of the two countries has also developed well.

Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen said that, in the overall relationship, the cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba has maintained a good momentum of development, demonstrated through the regular exchange of high-level delegations. The Ambassador emphasized that in the coming time, the two legislative bodies will play an important role in creating a legal framework to promote the relationship between the two countries in general, and the economic and social cooperation between the localities of the two countries in particular.

Agreeing with the Ambassador's assessment of the good relationship between Vietnam and Cuba in recent times, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that the two sides have signed many agreements, but the important thing is to evaluate the results of the implementation of the agreements in recent times, from which to discuss solutions for effective implementation in the coming time.

Believing that Vietnam and Cuba have many similarities in climate and soil, the National Assembly Chairman hopes that the two countries will strengthen cooperation in the fields of agriculture and energy.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that the good cooperation results between the two countries in general and the two National Assemblies in particular could not have been achieved without the important contributions of the Ambassador and the staff of the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam; he believed that with his good feelings and deep memories of the country and people of Vietnam, regardless of his position, Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen would continue to make positive contributions to promoting the special, exemplary and loyal friendship, solidarity and unity between Vietnam and Cuba.

Through the Ambassador, the National Assembly Chairman sent his regards to the First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez, General Raul Castro and conveyed his greetings to the President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez.
