From September 14-17, 2023, the National Assembly of Vietnam will host the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Hanoi, Vietnam. The conference has the theme: “The role of youth in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through digital transformation and innovation”.
Since its first event in 2014, the Global Young Parliamentarians’ Meeting has become a forum to enhance the role of young parliamentarians and youth participation in parliamentary activities; and to provide recommendations from the youth perspective on the activities and agenda of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
To learn more about the outstanding results of the previous 8 Global Young Parliamentarians' Conferences and expectations for the upcoming 9th Conference, Vietnam National Assembly Television reporters had an online interview with Mr. Dan Carden, Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians' Forum.

Reporter: Thank you, Mr. Dan Carden, for taking the time to talk to Vietnam National Assembly Television. In your opinion, what does the establishment of the Global Young Parliamentarians Conference mean to young parliamentarians around the world?
Mr. Dan Carden, Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum: The Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians has made huge changes for young parliamentarians since it was held in 2014. Before that, there was no global meeting dedicated to young parliamentarians.
Now we have a place for young parliamentarians to build community and mobilize the power of youth to tackle the global challenges we face.
Mr. Dan Carden, Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum.
Reporter: The 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians will focus on the role of youth in promoting the implementation of sustainable development goals through Digital Transformation and Innovation. What do you think about the topic chosen by the Vietnamese National Assembly?
Mr. Dan Carden, Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum: Since their first meeting, the Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians has had a huge impact. But the upcoming meeting in Vietnam will be an opportunity for us to go even further.
The world is at a turning point on a range of issues, whether it is climate change or sustainability. We need to act faster. At the same time, human innovation is happening more rapidly than ever before. New technologies like artificial intelligence bring huge opportunities, but they also bring risks.
Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians' Forum Dan Carden mentioned the issue of mastering technology.
The upcoming conference will focus on how young parliamentarians like us can take ownership of innovation and digital transformation, thereby helping to address many of the global challenges we face, in a responsible and ethical manner.
The conference will equip young parliamentarians with the knowledge to tackle their own parliamentary issues and share valuable perspectives to enhance global efforts.
We look forward to coming to your beautiful country and I believe that the Conference will be a great success. Thank you.
Reporter: Thank you very much!
