Vinh My Commune, Phu Loc District is in the process of building an advanced new rural area, in which criterion 2.4 on irrigation is an important content. Currently, the canal system in the commune is not synchronous, the drainage capacity is limited, affecting agricultural production. Recently, the People's Committee of the commune has sent a document to departments, branches and Phu Loc District People's Committee on investing in the construction of a canal along Provincial Road 21 with a length of 2.5km to ensure drainage for the whole commune, serving agricultural production and people's transportation.

Chairman of Vinh My Commune People's Committee, Mr. Phan Nhu Y said that this is a project to complete criterion 2.4 on irrigation, contributing to bringing the commune to advanced new rural standards and creating environmental landscape. The scale of the project with solid reinforced concrete structure, connected to the general drainage system of the area. The project does not require site clearance, so it is very convenient for investment and construction...

According to the Irrigation Department, by the end of 2024, in Hue city, there will be about 1,200 irrigation works, including 56 reservoirs, 235 dams, over 515 electric pumping stations and oil pumping stations, 500 sluices, 181km of sea dykes and more than 1,475km of canals invested in construction... to serve irrigation and drainage for more than 61,000 hectares/year of agricultural land, including about 54,000 hectares of 1-2 crop rice, 2,330 hectares of short-term crops and industrial crops; 4,405 hectares of aquaculture... The existing system of internal irrigation works has maximized its operational capacity compared to the design tasks, contributing to improving the efficiency of management and exploitation to serve irrigation water supply for crops reaching over 95% and other sectors, contributing to stabilizing production and socio-economic development of the city.

Mr. Dang Van Hoa, Head of the Hue City Irrigation Sub-Department, said that on December 31, 2024, the Provincial People's Committee (now the City People's Committee) issued Decision No. 3476/QD-UBND approving the Project "Upgrading the internal irrigation system to serve agricultural production to adapt to climate change" in Hue City by 2030, with a vision to 2045. The content of the project continues to clearly identify key and central tasks and propose appropriate solutions to invest in, upgrade, and repair the system of internal irrigation works to serve agricultural and rural production in Hue City.

Also according to Mr. Dang Van Hoa, the City People's Committee requested authorities at all levels to proactively develop plans and mobilize social resources to participate in investing in the construction, upgrading and completion of the system of intra-field irrigation works associated with the construction of new rural areas to improve productivity, quality and economic efficiency of agricultural production, organic agriculture, aiming to serve advanced farming methods, modern agriculture for rice to reduce production costs, save water, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Regularly update new mechanisms and policies on irrigation, focusing on prioritizing investment in upgrading the system of intra-field irrigation works to serve agricultural production to adapt to climate change in the new situation.
