As the Lunar New Year 2025 is approaching, people's demand for goods is increasing. To proactively supply goods and stabilize prices, businesses, supermarket chains, and distributors have prepared an average increase of 5 to 20% in reserve goods compared to the plan to serve the previous year's Tet, along with many incentive programs, discounts, and shopping stimulus; mainly focusing on some essential goods such as: rice, fresh food, processed food, cooking oil, sugar, etc.

According to the forecast of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, people's purchasing power during the Lunar New Year in 2025 may increase by more than 10% compared to the same period last year. Enterprises and distributors are required to be proactive in coordinating goods, avoiding hoarding and price increases before, during and after the Lunar New Year.

Stock up on goods early and in a variety of ways.

This year, the 2025 New Year and the Lunar New Year are close together, so people's purchasing power will be rapid and intense in a short period of time. Therefore, to ensure sufficient supply of goods to serve the market with good quality and stable prices, most manufacturing enterprises and distributors have prepared and stocked goods very early, with a variety of types and designs.

In particular, items such as food, drinks, confectionery and Tet gifts are all stocked up by 15 to 20% compared to last year. Businesses are even looking for more suppliers and optimizing costs to proactively coordinate goods when the market shows signs of "heating up".

As a company specializing in providing fresh meat products, this year's Tet, Vietnam Livestock Industry Corporation (Vissan) is boosting production to meet Tet consumer demand. It is expected that the company will supply the market with nearly 930 tons of fresh food (up 5% compared to last year's Tet) and 3,700 tons of processed food (up 8% compared to the same period).

In addition, Vissan reserves an additional 10-20% of its goods to cope with sudden shortages. With more than 120,000 points of sale nationwide, Vissan is committed to providing fresh and safe food to consumers, while implementing a variety of weekly promotions, offering price discounts of 10-20% on some essential products.

Not only for fresh food businesses, this is also a “golden time” for establishments and businesses in the confectionery industry. Many large domestic confectionery brands are making efforts to improve product quality, improve designs with competitive prices to meet the increasingly high tastes of consumers, as well as dominate the domestic market.

With a plan to supply 5,000 tons of various confectionery products, along with 6 million gift boxes, Bibica Joint Stock Company has prepared raw materials since the beginning of September 2024 to ensure stable supply and input costs. Most of Bibica's products remain stable in price, but some handicraft items may have a slight increase of 3-5% compared to last year due to increased labor costs.

Along with manufacturing enterprises, large distribution enterprises are now basically preparing well for the Lunar New Year. For example, the Aeon Vietnam supermarket system aims to increase the amount of goods in stock by 20-30%, even up to 50% for popular products during Tet. Aeon also offers promotions and discounts of up to 30-40% on many items. In particular, essential products for Tet such as fresh fruits, candies, Tet gift baskets, meat and seafood, etc. are being offered with increased incentives to meet the high demand of consumers.

According to Director of WinMart Royal City Supermarket Pham The Chien, the WinMart system has prepared carefully, working with suppliers 2-3 months before Tet to optimize the source of goods, ensuring a 20% increase in reserve goods, especially key products such as confectionery and fresh food, thereby ensuring supply, reducing unnecessary costs and helping prices not fluctuate compared to previous years.

Keep up with market developments

Both manufacturers and distributors are well prepared to stockpile and supply goods to the market, but are still anxiously awaiting the purchasing power of people in the 1-2 weeks before Tet. What businesses are most worried about is the fact that in the past 1-2 weeks, although shopping demand has increased, it is not strong. Therefore, to stimulate demand, manufacturers and distributors will implement additional promotional programs, even calculating to reduce profits for some product groups to ensure the consumption plan set out in advance.

Lotte Mart supermarket chain has started to join the Tet promotion "race" with a discount program on some items; at the same time, applying shocking weekend prices for member customers, preferential treatment for member customers with orders from 200 thousand VND. Along with that is the policy of discounting, discounting Tet gift baskets and giving gifts to customers who shop early for Tet.

MM Mega Market Vietnam's commercial director Nguyen Duc Toan also said that the center will discount up to 12% on early Tet orders, even offer buy 2 get 1 free promotions, and up to 50% off many items throughout Tet.

To increase people's purchasing power, in addition to the initiative of businesses and distributors, many relevant ministries, branches and localities actively deploy supply-demand connections, trade promotion, and support the consumption of goods during Tet.

According to Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen The Hiep, businesses in the area have stockpiled nearly 300,000 tons of rice, nearly 60,000 tons of pork, nearly 20,000 tons of poultry meat, 16,500 tons of beef, 396 million poultry eggs, 331,500 tons of vegetables, 16,560 tons of seafood, 1,575 tons of cakes, jams, candies, etc. Along with ensuring the supply of goods, to facilitate people's shopping, Tet goods will be served at 30 shopping centers, 131 supermarkets, 455 traditional markets, 2,000 convenience stores, 110 OCOP product introduction and sales points and tens of thousands of grocery stores in the area,...

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade has implemented a series of market stabilization programs, stimulating consumption for people and received consensus and support from many businesses. Accordingly, key businesses participating in the market stabilization program have prepared capital of more than 22,000 billion VND, of which more than 8,000 billion VND is to prepare essential food and foodstuffs to serve the Tet market.

The amount of price-stabilized goods increased by 4-6% compared to the same period last year; on average, each month during Tet, the market is expected to supply 8,300 tons of rice, 5,000 tons of livestock meat, 5,500 tons of poultry meat, 23 million poultry eggs, 1,400 tons of sugar, 1,100 tons of cooking oil, 800 tons of processed foods, etc. Within one month before and after Tet, the prices of goods under the market stabilization program and essential foodstuffs in the area will be kept fixed and unchanged.

With the plans to prepare goods and reserve goods of manufacturing enterprises and distributors increasing compared to last year, the supply for the Lunar New Year basically meets the demand; the price of goods does not fluctuate much, the market is stable, there is no shortage of goods or price fever. Management agencies recommend that people do not need to buy and stockpile large quantities of goods.

To increase people's purchasing power, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is continuing to coordinate with ministries, branches and localities to connect supply and demand, promote trade, and effectively and synchronously implement the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods".

In addition, market management forces nationwide are required to strengthen market inspection and control, handle violations, especially for goods with high consumer demand such as confectionery, alcohol, tobacco, gasoline and fresh food products..., avoid speculation, hoarding, creating "virtual fever", helping people to celebrate Tet happily and warmly.
