The Management Board of Ha Tinh fishing ports and wharves has proactively taken action, coordinated with functional forces to perform well its roles, responsibilities and tasks in supporting boats, fishermen and traders when natural disasters occur.
Staff of the Ha Tinh Fishing Port and Wharf Management Board fix minor landslides in the boat anchorage area to help protect and ensure safety for vehicles taking shelter from storms.
In recent days, due to the influence of tropical depression causing heavy rain and rough seas, the Management Board of Ha Tinh fishing ports and wharves and other functional forces have closely monitored the weather, promptly informed and contacted ships to call for shelter. For 4 consecutive days, at the Cua Sot fishing boat storm shelter area and Cua Sot fishing port, there were nearly 300 large and small fishing boats with about 600 fishermen from inside and outside the province coming to temporarily take refuge from natural disasters. At the anchorage, the boats were arranged neatly, in the right place, securely tied up, to avoid causing disorder and insecurity.
Fisherman Nguyen Viet Linh - owner of HT 90313 TS in Loc Ha town said: “We often go fishing far away from Bach Long Vy island. Nearly a week ago, we received information from the authorities requesting and guiding us to safely reach shore. When we arrived at the anchorage, we were supported by officers from the Management Board of fishing ports, fishing wharves, and border guards to tie anchors, collect fishing gear, protect property, and ensure safety. Any boats that ran aground or had problems were promptly supported to fix the problem.”
Ships enter Cua Sot fishing port to avoid bad weather due to the influence of tropical depression.
Recently, the storm shelters in Xuan Hoi (Nghi Xuan), Cua Nhuong (Cam Xuyen), Ky Ha (Ky Anh town) also welcomed about 600 boats with more than 1,000 fishermen from the province and other provinces to take shelter. All were instructed to anchor in the right position, and were carefully tied to avoid collisions, ensuring safety until they left for production (morning of September 29).
Along with supporting fishermen to protect their vehicles and fishing gear, the Management Board of Ha Tinh fishing ports and wharves has proactively developed plans and scenarios to evacuate businesses, traders, fishermen, and people living around fishing ports and anchorages to safe places when storms make landfall and high tides arise.
Fishing boats of Ky Ha fishermen entering the anchorage area are arranged to a safe area, fishing gear is carefully packed, and fishermen are encouraged to go ashore.
Mr. Than Quoc Te - Deputy Director of the Management Board of Ha Tinh Fishing Ports and Wharves said: "If there is a level 8 or level 9 storm, we will continuously inform the situation, support businesses in arranging goods, tying up kiosks, moving assets and asking everyone to leave unsafe locations.
If a storm of level 10 or higher occurs, the unit will mobilize cranes, forklifts, and human resources to move all assets, mobilize or force people to take shelter at schools and commune People's Committee offices; strictly prohibit people from going to the wharf, going out on the street, and staying at the boat dock to protect assets. If the water rises, the unit will also have a plan to prepare food, drinking water, other necessities, and move people to high ground at least 1 km from the coast.
Officers of the Ha Tinh Fishing Port and Wharf Management Board discussed with officers and soldiers of Thien Cam Border Guard Station (Cam Xuyen) the plan to count vehicles and ensure security and order for fishermen when taking shelter at the Cua Nhuong Fishing Boat Storm Shelter.
In addition to small traders and businesses operating at the two fishing ports (Cua Sot and Xuan Hoi), when there is a natural disaster, there are about 600 - 800 boats with about 1,200 - 1,700 fishermen taking shelter at the fishing boat anchorage areas to avoid storms.
Therefore, ensuring safety against fire, collision, traffic jam, food safety and hygiene, and preventing theft and social evils must always be a top priority. In the face of these risks, whenever there is a storm, the Ha Tinh Fishing Port and Wharf Management Board will mobilize 100% of its staff and employees to work closely with the police, border guards, and military forces to ensure stability.
Authorities assist fishermen in Xuan Hoi (Nghi Xuan) in cleaning up fishing gear when fishing boats dock to avoid storms.
Mr. Than Quoc Te added: “Every year, fishing ports and boat anchorages in Ha Tinh have to endure about 10 storms and tropical depressions, mainly concentrated at the end of the year. Therefore, we have proactively taken action, closely coordinated with other functional forces to do a good job of monitoring weather conditions, calling for and counting boats to take shelter, helping to tie boats and houses in vulnerable areas, maintaining environmental sanitation, ensuring security and order, and supporting small traders to protect their property.
Through that, we are determined to minimize damage caused by natural disasters, protect people's property and lives from storms, high tides and contribute to maintaining fishing production, trade and service activities in the area."
