Striker Thanh Thuy goes to Türkiye to compete

After nearly four years playing in Japan, striker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy will go to Türkiye to continue her personal development.

According to Mr. Ngo Van Dong, General Director of Binh Dien Company - Thanh Thuy's management unit, the main striker of the Vietnamese national team will play for the new club under a 10-month contract. The identity of the team and Thanh Thuy's salary have not been disclosed.

Thanh Thuy, from Binh Duong, grew up at Long An Volleyball Club. This 26-year-old, 1.93 m tall main attacker is the best hitter in Vietnamese women's volleyball. Since 2021, she has played for PFU BlueCats, with this club winning many achievements in the Japanese professional league.

Thanh Thuy's contract with BlueCats will expire after April. After that, she will return to Binh Dien Long An to compete in the VTV9-Binh Dien 2024 tournament, then go to Türkiye to compete.

"After analyzing with her family and wanting to create conditions for the athlete to improve herself, we decided to let Thanh Thuy go to Turkey to compete," Mr. Dong said on the afternoon of April 11 at the press conference of the VTV9-Binh Dien 2024 international volleyball tournament. "Thanh Thuy's new club is full of desire and goodwill. It will be a good environment for Thanh Thuy to develop and later return to help Vietnamese volleyball."

Türkiye is considered the number one powerhouse of women's volleyball in the world. The professional league in this country brings together many famous stars such as Tijana Boskovic, Gabi, Zehra Gunes...

The VTV9-Binh Dien 2024 tournament will take place in Dak Lak from May 11 to 19 with eight teams. There are five domestic teams: VTV Binh Dien Long An, LPBank Ninh Binh, Duc Giang Lao Cai Chemicals, BCTT Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc, U20 Vietnam and three foreign teams: Sichuan (China), PFU BlueCats (Japan), U20 Thailand. The tournament is an opportunity for the Vietnamese volleyball team and the U20 Vietnam team to prepare for the U20 Asian tournament.

The total prize is over 1 billion VND, in which the champion team receives 15,000 USD, the runner-up receives 10,000 USD. In addition to the collective awards, the organizing committee also awarded individual awards for the best main attacker, best middle blocker, best opposite setter, beauty queen, excellent all-round athlete, most beautiful ao dai athlete... each award is 700 USD.
