According to the reporter of Cong Thuong Newspaper in recent days, sea bass - a fish with high nutritional and economic value - is suddenly being sold everywhere on the online market at a "rescue" price, only half of the previous price, surprising many people.
Under each post in online market groups and social networking sites, there are dozens, even hundreds of people placing orders. Some people place orders from 2 to 5, while others place orders for up to a dozen at a time.
“ Guys, please rescue the fish for the people of Quang Ninh … it’s too cheap! The price is only half the normal price. The fish are harvested during the year, but due to the slow market, traders don’t catch them. People are complaining because the longer they keep them, the more they lose… I sell fish to support the people for only 90k/1kg… My fish tastes different from the fish raised in the market, don’t compare… ”, a sea bass seller on the online market named Hoang Loc introduced.
Under the post calling for sea bass rescue, Mr. Loc received dozens of likes and orders. Most people came to buy 1-2 fish to eat because the price was so cheap.
Not only Mr. Loc, every day on groups, apartment markets, and social networks, there are dozens of posts selling sea bass at "rescue" prices, starting from only 90,000 VND/kg.
Or another account, named Ngo Thu Huyen also posted: " Join hands to rescue Quang Ninh sea bass, sea bass and fish in Van Don rafts. Every year, the fish are priced at 180 - 260k/kg, but this year the price has dropped miserably, all the fish are big, 2.5 - 4kg, but the price is only as cheap as river fish. I'm selling it for 105k/1kg..."

Explaining this, according to many traders on the "online market", every year sea bass is mainly sold at seafood restaurants and mainly serves tourists, with prices ranging from 180,000 - 275,000 VND/kg depending on the type. However, after Tet, due to a sharp decrease in demand, this type of fish suddenly lost its price, people had to "dump" it on the online market at cheap prices.
“ The post-Tet market is slow, traders do not come to buy. The fish are qualified for export but cannot be sold. People are impatient and have to sell at low prices, only getting back the capital at half price ,” said trader Le Yen.
Be careful when buying cheap fish
According to reporters on the afternoon of February 21, many traders at Nghia Tan market (Cau Giay district, Hanoi) said that sea bass is currently being sold for about 140,000 VND/kg.
Having a fish stall for 8 years at Nghia Tan market (Cau Giay district, Hanoi), Ms. Ngo Chung Phuong (42 years old) said that she has never sold “rescued” fish. Because, she believes that if it is delicious, nutritious, cheap and also has good quality, it is “heavenly”.
“ I sell the fish myself, I personally select each fish, look at each fin and scale before I dare to sell to customers. Now, “rescued” fish are all over the internet these days, I don’t know the real quality, and no one guarantees it, so even if it’s cheap, I don’t dare to sell it to everyone. If people still want to buy “rescued” fish, it’s best to ask someone to buy it directly, let them see the product with their own eyes, and then ship it to their home. That way, you’ll have less risk and won’t have to waste money and get upset because you bought something that’s not as advertised online ,” Ms. Phuong emphasized.
Talking to reporters, Mr. The Anh - CEO of Madam Mai Seafood Restaurant, said that sea bass must be old enough, day old enough, and raised long enough (10 - 12 months of raising) to achieve the best quality. " Currently, sea bass at Madam Mai is still priced at 180,000 VND/kg for domestic sea bass, 290,000 VND/kg for imported sea bass fillets. The weight is about 1.8kg/fish ", he said.
