In recent years, the hobby of keeping ornamental birds in general and starlings in particular in Dak Lak has become a movement, attracting many participants.

Bird competitions and exchanges between people with the same hobby are also organized systematically and regularly.

Bird artist Le Ngoc Loi (Tan Loi ward, Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province) said that he has long had a passion for raising birds, especially starlings.

According to him, each bird player has their own criteria for choosing birds depending on their preferences and breeding purposes.

Bird breeders choose birds with melodious, multi-syllable voices that are tame.

Bird breeders who compete in singing competitions usually choose wild birds that are mature, have thick crests, are agile, and are very "brave".

Bird prices range from a few hundred thousand dong to a few million dong, with some birds even worth hundreds of millions of dong.

The singing contest of crested mynahs was organized by Van Tan crested mynah club (Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province).

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung (Tan Lap ward, Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province), who has participated in many singing competitions of red-whiskered bulbuls, shared his experience: When taming wild red-whiskered bulbuls (birds newly caught from the wild), the player must have passion and high patience.

When the bird sings naturally in the cage as if it were in the middle of the forest, the bird owner must regularly take the bird to bird clubs for singing competitions.

According to Mr. Dung's experience, birds also have their own temperaments, and players must understand them to choose the type of food they like and the appropriate cage.

In addition, the position of the cage during competition is also very important. Some birds play very well when hung in the middle of the cage, but do not perform well when placed in the outermost position. In order for his birds to compete well in each competition, Mr. Dung always goes early to choose the right position to hang the bird, especially in big tournaments.

Raising starlings requires a lot of investment of time and effort.

The movement of playing with starlings in Dak Lak province has existed for a long time, but has started to develop strongly since 2010. Currently, there are about 40 starling clubs in the province, the most in Buon Ma Thuot city with 14 clubs.

These clubs are places for people who share a passion for starlings to bring their birds to compete with each other.

Mr. Vo Thien Phuoc (residing in Cu M'gar district) said: He has been playing with starlings for more than 5 years now. Every free morning, he brings the birds to the club to train the starlings and learn more about how to take care of starlings.

According to Mr. Le Phuc Tieng, Chairman of the Ornamental Plants Association of Buon Ma Thuot City (Dak Lak Province), there are thousands of people playing with ornamental birds in the province, of which the starling attracts a lot of players.

Unlike before, when only the elderly participated, nowadays more and more young people are finding this elegant hobby.

The starling clubs are places to connect people who share the same passion and are places for people to meet, chat, put aside the hustle and bustle of life, and immerse themselves in the "music" performed by the starlings.
