Health insurance payments in Ho Chi Minh City reached nearly 1,000 billion VND in 4 months

According to Vietnam Social Security, in the first 4 months of 2024, the cost of medical examination and treatment under health insurance nationwide increased by nearly 5,600 billion VND compared to 2023.

In Ho Chi Minh City alone, health insurance payments increased by VND960 billion during this period.

A representative of Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance said that the cost of medical examination and treatment under health insurance at medical facilities in Ho Chi Minh City has increased in the first 4 months of 2024 due to many reasons.

Specifically, due to the increasing number of patients from the provinces coming to Ho Chi Minh City for treatment, hospital fees have increased, some medical facilities have expanded their facilities, machinery and equipment, some medical facilities have prescribed many technical services and medicines that are not really necessary...

"The Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance is coordinating with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health and medical facilities to analyze the objective and subjective causes of increased medical examination and treatment costs and will have solutions to rectify and manage the health insurance fund.

The management of health insurance fund expenditures has also just been directed by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee according to document No. 2243/UBND-VX," said a representative of Ho Chi Minh City Social Insurance.

Many provinces and cities have increased health insurance medical examination and treatment costs.

Previously, Vietnam Social Security held an online conference on controlling health insurance medical examination and treatment costs to resolve and remove difficulties and obstacles in health insurance medical examination and treatment.

In particular, in the first 4 months of 2024, health insurance medical examination and treatment costs increased by nearly VND 5,600 billion compared to 2023.

Some provinces and cities with a huge increase are Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Da Nang, Can Tho, Phu Tho, Hai Phong, Dong Nai, Dak Lak, Thai Binh, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh...

The leaders of Vietnam Social Security requested leaders of units to focus on evaluating and pointing out factors that increase the number of health insurance examinations and treatments, inpatient/outpatient treatment costs, emergency referral rates, testing, diagnostic imaging, etc.
