The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) has just released a report on monitoring classroom hygiene and hand hygiene at 95 schools in Ho Chi Minh City. The report noted that only 28% of schools met the permitted lighting and CO2 concentration standards.
On December 17, information from HCDC said that within 2 months (from September 23 to November 27, 2024), HCDC conducted monitoring at 95 schools with 3,355 classrooms and functional rooms in 22 districts and Thu Duc City. The monitoring content aims to assess factors such as light, noise, CO2 concentration in classrooms, information technology rooms, physics - chemistry - biology practice rooms of the schools.
Accordingly, the report noted that 27/95 monitored schools met lighting standards, accounting for 28%; 17/95 monitored schools met noise standards (accounting for 18%), schools located near traffic routes or with gyms near classrooms had noise levels higher than the permitted standard. 27/95 monitored schools had CO2 concentrations that met requirements, accounting for 28%.
According to HCDC's assessment, most schools that use air conditioners but do not have exhaust fans have CO2 concentrations higher than the allowable standard.
Hand hygiene in schools is assessed as quite good, most of the surveyed schools ensure the requirements for hand washing facilities for students. Of which, 100% of schools have hand washing areas for students, 100% of schools have clean water in hand washing areas, 98% of schools have soap or antiseptic solution in hand washing areas, 99% of schools have instruction boards in hand washing areas. In addition, 98% of surveyed students were informed about proper hand washing.
Through the results of monitoring schools in Ho Chi Minh City, HCDC recommends that the Department of Education and Training and the district and Thu Duc City health centers coordinate to monitor classroom hygiene indicators such as light, noise, and CO2 concentration of schools in the area every year.
According to HCDC, schools need to increase lighting in classrooms that do not meet lighting requirements, increase air exchange in classrooms that do not meet CO2 concentration requirements, and review and arrange enough hand-washing faucets according to regulations.
