Most medical facilities in Ha Tinh relatively fully comply with legal regulations on radiation and nuclear safety.

X-rays are a form of electromagnetic waves that can penetrate many materials, so they are used in medicine to diagnose bone structure images, identify bone diseases, diagnose lung diseases, and examine the abdomen to detect many other diseases.

In addition to the benefits, because X-rays have the ability to cause ionization or reactions in the body, when taking X-rays, if they are not performed in safe conditions, the room, the equipment do not meet safety standards or the technical staff is not fully equipped with knowledge, it will be dangerous for the patient.

According to regulations, medical facilities can only conduct medical examination and treatment activities when they are granted a license to conduct radiation work by a competent state management agency and the Group 2 measuring equipment is still valid for periodic inspection and calibration. Recently, the Department of Science and Technology has promoted state management of radiation safety and measurement for medical examination and treatment facilities in the area.

Through inspection, it was found that most medical facilities in Ha Tinh relatively fully implemented the legal regulations on radiation and nuclear safety. At the same time, medical facilities also paid attention to and carried out inspection and measurement of group 2 measuring devices (blood pressure monitors, electrocardiographs, electroencephalographs, manometers, thermometers, thermo-hygrometers, health scales, refractors, eyeglasses, and vision lenses).

The operating procedures of radiation equipment at Hong Linh Town Medical Center are strictly implemented, ensuring safety for people and doctors.

For example, Hong Linh Town Medical Center is currently using 4 x-ray devices and some nuclear medicine devices. The center strictly follows the procedures for operating radiation devices as well as monitoring the devices.

Doctor CKI Nguyen Thai Lam - Director of Hong Linh Town Medical Center shared that all staff operating radiation equipment have been thoroughly trained in radiation safety, fully equipped with protective gear and regularly monitored radiation doses. The center also strictly keeps a diary of patient monitoring, the number of hours of radiation emitted per day, etc.

However, in reality, there are still many units that have not fully implemented regulations on radiation safety and measurement, or have implemented them in a perfunctory manner, often focusing more on expertise than on radiation safety.

Compliance with radiation safety laws in Ha Tinh has had many positive changes compared to previous years.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Kien - Chief Inspector of the Department of Science and Technology said: From the end of 2022 to now, the Department of Science and Technology has coordinated with the Department of Health, the Provincial Police, and the People's Committees of localities to organize 2 inspections of compliance with legal regulations on radiation and nuclear safety, and measurement for group 2 measuring instruments at 34 medical facilities (14 public medical facilities and 20 private medical facilities). Through the inspection, the delegation discovered and strictly punished 10 violating facilities with a total amount of more than 125 million VND.

The main violations are: conducting radiation work when the license has expired for less than 30 days and more than 30 days; not equipping radiation workers with personal dosimeters; not organizing personal radiation dose assessment for radiation workers at least once every 3 months; not organizing training on radiation and nuclear safety knowledge for radiation workers according to regulations; allowing radiation doses to the public to exceed the prescribed dose limit; using group 2 measuring devices without inspection certificates (stamps, certificates)...

Inspection work contributes to rectifying the implementation of legal regulations on radiation safety.

To strengthen state management and compliance with legal regulations on radiation safety, nuclear safety and group 2 measuring instruments in medicine in the area, Mr. Kien added: In the coming time, the Department will continue to promote propaganda, dissemination and update new legal documents on radiation safety and measurement for organizations and individuals using medical equipment and measuring devices (list of group 2 measuring instruments).

In addition, strengthen coordination between levels and functional sectors in the management, inspection and examination of the management and use of medical x-rays and measuring equipment used in medicine.
