Successful female director with the secret to producing deer bone glue that meets 3-star OCOP standards

Ms. Pham Thi Tram was born into a family with parents who specialize in farming and raising deer for velvet in Son Lam commune, Huong Son. Until now, Ms. Tram still does not know when her parents started raising deer, she only remembers that she became friends with the family's deer since she was a child. For that reason, after graduating from high school (in 2002), Ms. Tram attended the Veterinary College in Nghi Loc district (Nghe An). In 2004, after graduating, she returned to her hometown to help her family develop the deer farming business.

In 2011, after getting married to Mr. Tran Van Nhan, who was the same age, she moved to her husband's hometown in Mai Ha village, Son Trung commune, Huong Son district and has lived there since then. After starting a family, the young couple did not continue raising animals but switched to purchasing and trading deer antler products. According to Ms. Tram, due to many years of working in the profession and studying veterinary medicine, she has a team of partners who are collaborators in many provinces and cities across the country, so the business is quite favorable.

In 2015, Ms. Tram "invaded" into processing new products such as: fresh and dried ground deer antlers, deer antlers soaked in honey, deer antler wine, deer sole extract, deer antler extract... Up to now, her products have been recognized by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations as meeting ISO 9001:2015 standards, and are in the top 10 Golden Star brands of Vietnam in 2024.

Not stopping at what has been achieved, in June 2024, Ms. Tram established Tram Nhan Trading & Service Company Limited, investing more than 3 billion VND to expand the factory, purchasing more types of machinery and equipment such as: slicing machines, deer antler dryers, vacuum machines, product packaging machines... to produce deer bone glue according to 3-star OCOP criteria.

After the production and processing process and bringing the product to the market, on March 25, 2025, Huong Son deer bone glue product of Tram Nhan Trading & Service Company Limited was assessed by the OCOP Product Evaluation and Classification Council of Huong Son district as ensuring quality, meeting the 3-star OCOP criteria.

After cooking, the deer antler is put into a packaging mold.

To produce a good quality product, the input materials play a decisive role. Therefore, the facility only chooses to buy old, disease-free deer for butchering or buys bones from reputable establishments in Huong Son district. According to Ms. Tram, deer bone glue is made up of 3 main ingredients: deer bone accounts for 85%, deer sole and deer antlers account for 15%. After being washed, the deer bones are put into a pot (100 liters of water, 40 kg of deer bones) and boiled for about 1 hour with ginger in a certain ratio to remove the odor.

After removing the bones to dry, continue to put them in a specialized oven, the sole and deer antlers are placed below, the deer bones are placed on top. After 24 hours of boiling, the water gradually evaporates to form a thick solution and is transferred to cook on a gas stove using a cast iron pot. After 12 hours, the thick solution is removed, packaged, and vacuum-sealed for preservation. 40 kg of bones will produce 6 kg of bone glue. To ensure the safety of customers when using, the facility owned by Ms. Tram always determines that food hygiene and safety is the top priority, resolutely saying no to colorants and flavorings. Thanks to ensuring this requirement, although it has just been "baked", the company's products have been trusted by customers.

On average, Tram Nhan Trading & Service Company Limited produces 180-200 kg of deer bone glue per month.

Huong Son deer bone glue has a dark brown or cockroach wing color, a characteristic deer flavor, so it is very popular. The selling price at Tram Nhan Trading & Service Company Limited ranges from 450,000 - 550,000 VND/100 grams. Because it is vacuum-packed, deer bone glue can be used for about 1 year, stored in the refrigerator at a temperature of 18 -20 degrees Celsius.

On average, each month, Tram Nhan Trading & Service Company Limited produces 180-200 kg of deer bone glue; at the same time, it creates regular jobs for 5 workers with an income of 5 million VND/person/month.

Regarding the development strategy in the coming time, Ms. Pham Thi Tram said that she will continue to expand more sales agents in big cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to increase processing capacity.
