(NLDO) - The scene of long lines of cars inching along National Highway 1 through Quang Binh is becoming a haunting sight after every Tet holiday.
A line of cars on Highway 1 through Quang Binh
According to the reporter of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, the traffic volume on National Highway 1 in the North-South direction through Quang Binh province increased dramatically after Tet, especially at the "bottleneck" of Gianh bridge, causing prolonged local congestion at many times.
At noon and evening on February 3 (the 6th day of the Lunar New Year), thousands of cars slowly moved along this road. The queue of vehicles stretched for kilometers, especially at Gianh Bridge - the inherent bottleneck of the North-South arterial road.
The main reason is that National Highway 1 has been narrowed from 4 lanes to only 2 lanes for motor vehicles when reaching Gianh Bridge. When the number of vehicles increases suddenly, moving across the bridge becomes difficult, leading to prolonged congestion.
Each convoy slowly moved forward, many drivers were impatient but still patiently stayed close to the lane. The traffic police tried their best to regulate the traffic, but under the pressure of overload, the congestion continued, turning the journey back to the South after Tet into a tiring one.
According to the Quang Binh Traffic Police, the cause of the overload is that at the end of the Lunar New Year holiday, many people return to Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces by car to prepare for work and study, causing increased traffic pressure.
Actual records on National Highway 1 from Dong Hoi City to Quang Trach District - show that despite the difficulty of transportation, drivers still obey traffic laws. There is no lane encroachment or honking to overtake, helping to maintain traffic order despite the slow speed...

The scene of National Highway 1 jammed through Quang Binh before and after Tet has become a nightmare for residents and drivers.
Traffic accidents make "road congestion worse"
Notably, at around 3:30 p.m. the same day, a serious traffic accident occurred on National Highway 1, passing through Quang Xuan Commune, Quang Trach District. A passenger bus operated by Hung Long collided with another vehicle, killing one person on the spot. This incident further aggravated the traffic congestion, forcing traffic to move only on a single lane, resulting in kilometers of affected vehicles.
Earlier that morning, on National Highway 1 in the South-North direction, through Ly Hoa Pass, Bo Trach District, there was also a prolonged traffic jam. The rain made the road slippery, a passenger bus lost control, crashed into the hard median strip and blocked most of the road. This incident forced the vehicles behind to move slowly, causing the traffic jam to last for many hours.
