The information was stated by Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee - at a working session with Can Tho City Customs Department on October 24.

Can Tho Customs Department said that as of October 15, the unit had collected VND2,280 billion in budget revenue (exceeding the estimate by 3%), with Can Tho alone collecting more than VND339 billion (exceeding the estimate by 6%). In the coming time, Can Tho Customs will focus on facilitating the circulation of goods and preventing budget losses.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee - said that at the recent conference on removing difficulties and promoting transport infrastructure in the Mekong Delta, the Prime Minister emphasized the development of waterway transport, including the system of seaports, river ports, and dry ports. Therefore, the City is focusing and has high expectations for the construction of ports to serve the transportation of goods in the coming time. By the end of the year, Can Tho will complete the planning of the port system, including O Mon port - a newly established port.
"Before now, we always said Can Tho was the center of the Mekong Delta, but there was no planning for a water port. Cai Cui has a wharf only 180m long, Thot Not port has a wharf only 120m long and only one wharf, although the cargo traffic is bustling, but when one ship arrives, there is no more room. So how can we circulate goods quickly and reduce logistics costs?", said Mr. Hieu.
According to the Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, each barge can currently carry 150-200 containers of goods and can operate in shallow waters where large ships cannot enter. Using barges to transport goods from Can Tho to ports in Ho Chi Minh City will reduce transportation costs, fuel, and manpower compared to road transport. This is the green transport that many countries in the world are applying, very convenient for the Mekong Delta region.
Based on the reality of the ports in Can Tho, Mr. Hieu suggested that the City People's Committee direct relevant departments and units to soon complete the planning of the city's ports. After that, land will be recovered and an auction will be held to select investors for the port. When the port is put into operation, Can Tho Customs will coordinate to establish Customs Sub-Departments at the port to facilitate the circulation of goods through the port.
Can Tho has about 60km of Hau River flowing through the area. |
Previously, O Mon port (O Mon district) was approved by Can Tho City to consider a new planning opening, inviting investors, with the function of a general cargo and container seaport. This port will help Can Tho take advantage of the river to develop the economy, including industrial activities and port services, logistics, forming businesses serving import and export activities...
Located in the center of the Mekong Delta region, with about 60km of Hau River flowing through the area, Can Tho City has seaports such as Cai Cui port, Hoang Dieu port, Tra Noc - O Mon port, Thot Not port. The volume of goods passing through seaports in Can Tho in 2023 will reach 4.48 million tons.
