Specifically, the Tam Ngan canal has many silted sections (3 sections of about 5.2 km are dry (according to the report of the Regional Inland Waterways Department III, now the Southern Maritime and Waterways Department), not ensuring the standards of the level III canal. Therefore, water vehicles cannot circulate, meeting the transportation needs of factories that have been invited by the province to invest, operating along the route (such as the Hanh Phuc Rice Factory of Hanh Phuc Rice Joint Stock Company), affecting the business operations.
According to the planning, the Tam Ngan Canal is planned to be of level III, and can be effectively exploited by barges up to 2x400 tons and inland waterway vehicles with a capacity of up to 300 tons. Since the dredging project WB5 was completed in 2011, the route has not been dredged or maintained.
To overcome the difficulties, the An Giang Department of Construction proposed that the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration add to the list of dredging and maintenance of the entire Tam Ngan canal and organize the implementation in 2025. At the same time, it proposed to consider approving the Hanh Phuc Rice Joint Stock Company to carry out dredging of the company's inland waterway wharf waters using the company's own funds.
