Preferential credit capital helps women escape poverty

Việt NamViệt Nam09/04/2025

Over the years, economic models implemented by women have been effective and have become models in poverty reduction. Through the Women's Union at all levels from the provincial to the grassroots level, policy credit capital has created the premise for female members to gradually escape poverty sustainably and become rich.

Previously a poor household in the village, Mrs. Pich in Hua Chai village, Muong Giang town, Quynh Nhai district was lent 200 million VND by Agribank branch in Quynh Nhai district to invest in pig farming since 2020. From a few dozen pigs at first, the family now has a herd of nearly 100 pigs. With diligence and hard work, the family sells 3-4 litters each year, earning 150 million VND/year after deducting expenses.

Mrs. Lu Thi Pich, Hua Chai Village, Muong Giang Town, Quynh Nhai, Son La:   With preferential interest rates from the District Agricultural Bank to develop the economy, the family has invested in livestock farming and has now paid back a portion. In the near future, the family will continue to borrow capital to expand the scale of livestock farming and increase family income.

As one of the women's union members with a stable income, she was able to build a solid and spacious house by borrowing capital to develop livestock farming in Chieng An ward, Son La city. In 2022, she was lent 100 million VND by the provincial Social Policy Bank, and borrowed 45 million VND through the Farmers' Association and Women's Union at all levels. Ms. Lu Thi La bought cows and pigs to raise to increase her family's income. At the end of 2024, Ms. La sold all 10 cows, and her family is currently focusing on taking care of 5 breeding sows.

Ms. Lu Thi La, Group 4, Chieng An Ward, Son La City: “In the past, my family had difficult circumstances and wanted to raise livestock but did not have the conditions. Two years ago, my family borrowed money from the social policy bank and money from the farmers' association and women's association to raise pigs. Up to now, the pigs have developed very well and have been sold. In the future, I will continue to develop livestock and hope that the associations at all levels will continue to pay attention so that we have more resources to develop the economy.”

Through loan and savings groups, thousands of women members in the province have accessed preferential credit sources to develop the economy and improve family life. Many women have escaped poverty and become quite wealthy households, inspiring other women to boldly invest in economic development from supporting capital sources.

Ms. Quang Thi Chien, President of the Women's Union of Chieng An Ward, Son La City: "In order to receive the trust from the Provincial Bank for Social Policies, the Union also regularly disseminates to members as well as local people to access loan sources such as job creation for poor and near-poor households... to develop the economy in the recent past. From accessing those loan sources, women use them for livestock and crop farming to bring about a more stable life."

Practice shows that integrating propaganda activities with guidance and hand-holding helps members develop the economy, increase income, and promote the role of loan sources. Through the banking system in the province, not only women members but also many people in need of loans for economic development can access capital conveniently and quickly.

Ms. Vu Thi Tien An, Agribank branch in Quynh Nhai district, Son La: "The branch has coordinated with organizations and commune People's Committees to establish 54 loan groups with 3,035 members, outstanding loans of more than 300 billion VND, accounting for over 55% of total outstanding loans. The branch has flexibly applied preferential loan programs for customers who are eligible for loans for production and business, consumer loans. Up to now, the branch is implementing 8 preferential loan programs."

With timely support of capital and techniques, along with boldly changing their thinking, working methods, and investing in transforming production and business models, women have gradually improved and raised their family's living standards, actively contributing to the local task of poverty reduction and new rural construction./.
