On the morning of June 20, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference on natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue in 2022; reviewed the first 6 months of 2023 and deployed key tasks in the coming time.

In 2022, Dak Lak province experienced 16 natural disasters, killing 1 person, injuring 4 people, flooding hundreds of houses and damaging many traffic and irrigation works, with total damage of nearly 243 billion VND.
From the beginning of 2023 until now, Dak Lak has experienced 13 natural disasters, including: 10 tornadoes, 1 drought and 2 floods, causing 259 houses damaged, 5 schools and 741 hectares of crops affected... estimated damage of nearly 11 billion VND.

In order to effectively implement natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue work, in recent times, all levels, sectors and localities have implemented many practical measures, such as: closely monitoring weather developments to proactively provide forecasting and warning information, technical guidance on response, relocation and evacuation of people when natural disasters occur; proactively preparing supplies, materials and human resources according to the "4 on-site" motto; managing, investing, constructing and maintaining, upgrading dikes, dams and other natural disaster prevention works.
At the same time, training courses were organized for disaster prevention forces and local people, with nearly 300 participants; disaster prevention shock teams were established in 100% of communes, wards and towns in the province, with over 15,000 members. In addition, to overcome difficulties and contribute to minimizing damage caused by natural disasters, in 2022, the Provincial People's Committee allocated more than 80 billion VND to support production recovery and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters...

At the conference, delegates said that in addition to the achieved results, the work of natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue still revealed some shortcomings and limitations such as: the notification and warning system for the downstream areas of reservoirs is still lacking; the annual budget allocated for natural disaster prevention is still limited; infrastructure works have not ensured safety against natural disasters, especially in remote and disadvantaged areas; facilities, equipment, and tools to support natural disaster prevention activities at district and commune levels are still limited...

Concluding the conference, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Ha said: In order to be ready to proactively respond to possible natural disasters, minimize damage to people and property, and affect socio-economic activities in the area in 2023, weather forecasting needs to be strengthened to provide timely disaster warning information to localities early and from afar; effectively implement the "4 on-site" motto to ensure safety for people and property; inspect damaged and degraded works to promptly repair, overcome, and upgrade, to prevent dam breaks, especially irrigation works; continue to strengthen the capacity of disaster prevention teams at all levels to meet the requirements of the assigned tasks; continue to strengthen propaganda work, instruct on prevention skills, and respond to common types of natural disasters in many forms, ensuring that information about natural disasters reaches people in affected areas; Promote the application of digital technology in forecasting natural disasters to ensure increasingly timely and accurate...
