Tuyen Quang is located in the Northeast region, bordering Ha Giang to the north, Bac Kan and Thai Nguyen to the east, Yen Bai to the west, Vinh Phu and Phu Tho to the south. The administrative center of the province is Tuyen Quang city, in addition to 6 districts including Chiem Hoa, Son Duong, Ham Yen, Yen Son, Lam Binh and Na Hang.
During the August Revolution, Tuyen Quang was the capital of the liberated zone and was chosen as the revolutionary center of the whole country. Many historical events took place in places such as Tan Trao - Son Duong - Tuyen Quang. Today, Tuyen Quang is considered a rich tourist destination, combining historical learning and natural experiences.
The best time to visit Tuyen Quang is usually after September until after Lunar New Year because of the dry weather, beautiful natural scenery with many blooming flowers.
Move
Tuyen Quang city is about 125 km from the center of Hanoi capital. The fastest way is to take the Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway then onto the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho highway. The entire route takes about 2 hours.
The Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho Expressway was just inaugurated on December 23, 40.2 km long, starting at Luong Vuong commune, Tuyen Quang city and ending at IC9 intersection of Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway.
Buses from Hanoi to Tuyen Quang depart from My Dinh or Giap Bat stations. Travel time is about 2 and a half hours. Ticket prices range from 70,000 VND to 150,000 VND.
Accommodation
Tuyen Quang city has many hotels and motels. If you only go to places within 100 km, you should stay in the city.
Muong Thanh Tuyen Quang Hotel costs from 1 to 1.3 million VND per night, Royal Palace costs about 800,000 VND per night. Smaller hotels cost from 300,000 to 600,000 VND such as Anh Anh Luxury Hotel, Tan Trang Hotel, Kim Long Hotel, Nang Mai Hotel.
The system of motels and homestays in the city is also quite diverse such as Minh Thuy, Lan Mao, Loc Son, Hoa Hong, Thanh Huyen, with prices from 200,000 VND or less per night.
In Na Hang, visitors can choose homestays such as Ban Ne Thanh Tuong homestay, A Phu homestay, Deo But Na Hang homestay (Misa), Khuoi Nhi homestay, Hung Hoa homestay Na Hang, Hoang Viet homestay. Historical destinations
Tuyen Quang has 546 historical, cultural and scenic relics, of which 435 are historical relics, considered the "Revolutionary Museum" of the whole country.
Tan Trao is a commune in the northeast of Son Duong district, associated with President Ho Chi Minh. The commune has 17 relics, recording historical events in the early days of the country's founding such as Na Lua hut, Tan Trao banyan tree, Tan Trao communal house, Hong Thai communal house along with places marking the 9-year resistance war.
Na Lua hut
This is where President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked from the end of May to the end of August 1945 to prepare for the general uprising. The hut was built of bamboo in the style of a stilt house. On June 4, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh convened a conference of cadres to prepare for the establishment of a "liberated zone, liberation army", leading to the National Congress and the general uprising. The hut is still preserved and is a famous tourist destination for visitors to Tuyen Quang.
Tan Trao banyan tree
Under the shade of the banyan tree of Tan Lap village, on the afternoon of August 16, 1945, the Vietnamese Liberation Army held a ceremony to send off troops, witnessed by the people of Tan Trao and 60 delegates from all over the country attending the National Congress. General Vo Nguyen Giap read the military order No. 1 and then the Liberation Army set off through Thai Nguyen to liberate Hanoi.
Tan Trao Communal House
This is the communal house worshiping the village's tutelary god and the river and mountain gods of Tan Lap village. The communal house was built in 1923 in the style of a stilt house, with 3 wooden pillars, 2 wings, and a roof covered with palm leaves. Here, on August 16, 1945, delegates to the National Congress approved the policy of carrying out the General Uprising, stipulated that the national flag be the red flag with a yellow star, the national anthem be the Tien Quan Ca, and elected the National Liberation Committee (Provisional Government) headed by President Ho Chi Minh. On the morning of August 17, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh read the oath at the National introduction ceremony here.
Before 1945, the communal house was called Kim Tran, located in Kim Tran village (now Ca village), and was later named after martyr Pham Hong Thai. The communal house was built in 1919, with wooden architecture, palm-leaf roof, including 3 rooms and 2 wings, in the shape of a mountain stilt house. The communal house worships the village's tutelary god, the river god, the mountain god and the gods around the area. In addition, the communal house also worships Princess Ngoc Dung. This is also a place for cultural activities and meetings of the village. In addition to its religious value, the communal house also has historical value because it was the first stop of President Ho Chi Minh after returning from Pac Bo (Cao Bang) to Tan Trao on May 21, 1945.
Hang Bong
It was the residence and workplace of President Ho Chi Minh during the resistance war against France. The cave is located halfway up Bong Mountain, at the foot of the mountain is the Pho Day River winding around the right side of the mountain range. Here, President Ho Chi Minh directed the 1950 Border Campaign and the 2nd National Party Congress in 1951.
Mac Dynasty Citadel
The Mac Dynasty Citadel is located in Tan Quang Ward, Tuyen Quang City. The citadel was built in 1592, during the Mac Dynasty and was repaired in the early Nguyen Dynasty (19th century). The citadel has an important military position, located on the banks of the Lo River and on the waterway and road traffic axis, and has been associated with many important historical events. The citadel is an architectural and artistic relic, and is also the place where many battles of peasant uprisings, battles against the French and Japanese took place, and where President Ho Chi Minh spoke to the people of Tuyen Quang when he returned to visit after 6 years of separation.
The citadel is no longer intact but still retains its basic parts, which are symbols of Tuyen Quang's history. Recently, the citadel has been restored and some items such as the two gates and the remaining 140 meters of wall have been repaired.
Nguyen Tat Thanh Square
Located in the city center, right next to Lo River, Nguyen Tat Thanh Square has an area of over 8.5 hectares, is a destination with historical and cultural values that are meaningful to the people of Tuyen Quang. In the middle of the square is the monument "Uncle Ho with the people of all ethnic groups in Tuyen Quang province", at the foot of Tho Son mountain. The project started in early 2012 and was completed on the 125th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19, 2015).
In 2022, Nguyen Tat Thanh Square was recognized by the Organizing Committee of the "Asian Cityscape" award as one of 11 outstanding works and projects.

Na Hang Eco-tourism Area
Na Hang - Lam Binh Eco-tourism Area is likened to a "fairyland on earth", located more than 100 km from Tuyen Quang City. It is the confluence of the Lo River and the Gam River, surrounded by limestone mountains and primeval forests, and is also known as "Ha Long in the middle of the jungle". The entire area has a total area of 15,000 hectares, including more than 8,000 hectares of lake surface. The road is also very beautiful, winding around the mountains and hills. Visitors will have a large space to explore and relax, especially cruising on the lake. Boats on the lake operate from 8am to 5pm daily.
Located at an altitude of more than 1,000 m above sea level, Na Hang's landscape is always covered in fog, especially in winter from November to January of the following year. This is also a beautiful time to visit Na Hang.
Tourists can visit many places such as: Pac Ta Temple, sightseeing cruise at Mo waterfall, Khuoi Nhi waterfall, explore caves, primeval forests of precious wood, watch langurs playing. Another interesting experience is trekking in the primeval forests of Na Hang - Lam Binh nature reserve. In addition, there are many beautiful caves such as Bo Kim cave (Thanh Tuong commune), Khau Quang cave (Nang Kha commune), Phia Muon cave (Son Phu commune), Khuoi Pin cave (Khuon Ha commune) and waterfalls such as Nam Me waterfall (Khuon Ha commune), Khuoi Nhi waterfall (Thuong Lam commune), Mo waterfall (Na Hang town).
On Na Hang Lake, there is a special place called Coc Vai (Vai Pha), a sacred place where anyone who comes by boat will make a wish. Coc Vai is 50 m high and is a natural stone pillar in the lake. Tourists who take a boat ride past the stone pillar are often advised by tour guides to make a wish for themselves or their family, as this is a sacred and lucky place.

My Lam mineral spring
My Lam mineral spring is located 12 km southwest of Tuyen Quang city, a key tourist area of the province. My Lam natural mineral water was discovered by French geologists in 1923, clear and hot, always stable at 67 degrees Celsius, taken directly from an underground water source more than 150 m deep. The tourist area has a full system of hotels and restaurants, meeting the diverse needs of visitors when they come to experience.
Mo Waterfall
Mo Waterfall (also known as Pac Ban Waterfall) is nearly 100 km from Tuyen Quang city. It is a complex of three waterfalls. The scenery at Mo Waterfall is dreamy and mysterious, likened to a "fairyland", suitable for young people who love taking photos.
There are two ways to visit Mo waterfall. If you want to take it easy and spend less energy, you should go by boat. Those who like adventure and want to have more points of contact can approach by road. In addition, visitors can freely visit the primeval forest surrounding the waterfall. Tourists will be able to touch the tau trees, tall green trees, and giant carpets of leaves. This place has few services, so you can only visit during the day.
Ban Ba Waterfall
Ban Ba Waterfall is located on the slope of Phieng Khang mountain, in Trung Ha commune, Chiem Hoa district, 70 km from Tuyen Quang city. From Chiem Hoa, the small road leading to the waterfall is 25 km long, deep in the forest. The waterfall is uniquely beautiful because of the continuous chain of waterfalls, with three large waterfalls including Tat Cum, Tat Cao, and Tat Gio. The transitions between the waterfalls are small waterfalls with a height of 5-7 m, with many small streams and clear water pools.
Coming to Ban Ba, visitors can also explore the old forest with hundreds of years old trees, many precious woods, and climbing plants. At the foot of the waterfall, the lush fields all year round create a beautiful natural picture. If visitors want to find a place to rest, they should choose the stilt house of the ethnic people and enjoy fern, hill chicken, grilled fish, and rocket pork.
Pac Ta Temple
Pac Ta Temple is a spiritual destination located at the foot of Pac Ta Mountain, bearing the vestiges of an ancient temple, with many beautiful surrounding landscapes. The temple worships and commemorates the fiancee of General Tran Nhat Duat - a talented general who guarded Tuyen Quang at that time, and is a historical relic that marks our country's second fight against the Yuan-Mongol army (1285). With its cultural and historical values, Pac Ta Temple is an attractive destination for visitors from near and far. Note that this is a destination for sightseeing only, without services and entertainment.
Song Long Cave
Song Long Cave is located in Lam Ha Commune (Lam Binh District), a tourist attraction that attracts many domestic and foreign tourists. The cave is surrounded by 99 mountains, taking about 2 hours to travel from Na Hang wharf. The cave is about 200 m above the lake surface, more than 200 m long, the average height inside is 40 m, the widest place is over 50 m. Exploring Song Long Cave, visitors will have the first impression of the "sky-piercing stone pile" right in front of the cave entrance, which locals still call Vai Pha pile.
Phia Vai Cave
Phia Vai Cave is an archaeological site located in Lam Binh district, in the Na Hang lake area of Tuyen Quang hydroelectric plant. In 2005, Tuyen Quang Museum and the Institute of Archaeology excavated primitive human remains in Phia Vai. Visitors to Phia Vai will be introduced to artifacts and the Hoa Binh cultural region. All artifacts in Phia Vai Cave show the historical development of mankind.
Cuisine
Lo River Carp Salad
This is the first dish you must try after arriving in Tuyen Quang. Freshly caught silver carp will be cleaned and processed into salad. A dish that is harmonious in both taste and appearance, including the sweetness of fish, the rich aroma of minced bones, the sourness of lemon and the spicy taste of fresh chili.
Steamed Chameleon with Meat
Steamed ke flowers with meat is a typical dish of the Tay ethnic group. Ke flowers are shaped like a small bell, called booc ke by the Tay people. The tree is a woody plant with a wide canopy and large leaves. After removing the pistil, it is washed, stuffed with meat and eggs and steamed for about 15 minutes. The flowers bloom with the soft, fatty, slightly bitter meat filling. Steamed ke flowers with meat are served hot, dipped in fish sauce.
Na Hang black pig
Black pig is a specialty of Na Hang mountain region, a breed of pig with a long and pointed snout, shaggy hair, especially small but sturdy body. This breed is often raised naturally. Black pig meat can be processed into many delicious dishes such as grilled with galangal, with five-spice powder or stir-fried, and the most famous is sour pork.
Sticky rice cake with ant egg filling
Ant eggs are processed by the Tay people as the filling of sticky rice cakes. The cake has the delicious taste of sticky rice, the fatty taste of ant eggs mixed with the smell of green onions and dill. Note, some people may have allergies when eating it, similar to allergies when drinking alcohol or eating seafood.
Buffalo skin salad
The Tay people in Lam Binh have turned buffalo skin into a specialty on the dining table on special occasions. The buffalo skin is heated over a fire and then soaked in water. After being cleaned, it is boiled for 1.5 to 2 hours and then thinly sliced. The buffalo skin salad needs to be seasoned with spices and herbs such as peanuts, Vietnamese coriander, Vietnamese coriander, mac khen and banana flowers. Na Hang Corn Wine
Known for its rich flavor of the ethnic minorities in the northern mountainous region, Na Hang corn wine is a famous delicacy of Tuyen Quang province. Visitors can immediately see the image of a woman making wine when entering a traditional house. Na Hang leaf yeast is the main ingredient that makes the characteristic flavor of this wine. Shiitake mushrooms are one of the 20 herbs used to make yeast, giving this wine its characteristic flavor.
Note
Tuyen Quang has many hills, lakes, waterfalls and forests so remember to bring insect repellent if you have sensitive skin.
