At this time, on the hillsides of Huong Son district (Ha Tinh), pomelo growers are starting to harvest. This year, pomelos have a good harvest and good prices, so everyone is excited.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thang (village 9, Son Truong commune) is happy that his 2 hectares of oranges have a high yield this year.
For more than 2 weeks now, nearly 2 hectares of oranges of Mr. Nguyen Van Thang's family (village 9, Son Truong commune) have begun to be harvested. Thanks to organic farming, his family's orange garden has grown well and achieved high productivity.
Mr. Thang excitedly shared: "Thanks to investment in fertilization and good pest control, my family's orange garden this year has a good harvest and is starting to ripen. Nearly 2 hectares of oranges are expected to yield nearly 20 tons of fruit. Currently, the family is gradually pruning and selling them, with prices ranging from 30,000 to 45,000 VND/kg. Because the price of oranges is increasing at the end of the year, the family is not in a hurry to sell but is waiting for Tet."
Mr. Thang's family's orange garden is a place for many localities, units and individuals to visit and learn from.
It is known that since last year, Mr. Thang's family has invested in an automatic watering system and installed a camera to protect the garden, ensuring good productivity, quality, and higher selling prices. The orange garden model grown using organic methods, combined with Mr. Thang's automatic watering system, has also attracted many people to learn and share experiences.
This year, the entire Son Truong commune has more than 300 hectares of oranges, of which nearly 250 hectares bear fruit, with an estimated yield of nearly 3,000 tons. Currently, the commune has 1 cooperative and 36 cooperative groups growing oranges according to VietGAP standards. This year, thanks to the focus on investment in care, the quality of the oranges is quite good, and people are hopeful for a successful orange season.
This year, Ms. Le Thi Ly's family (village 9, Son Truong commune) plans to harvest nearly 10 tons of oranges.
Also a long-time orange grower in Son Truong commune, this year, Ms. Le Thi Ly (village 9) is very excited when 1 hectare of oranges has a high yield, expected to bring her family nearly 10 tons of fruit.
Ms. Ly said: "This year, the orange yield is quite high, the fruit is heavy on the branches, so I have to use bamboo stakes to prop up the trees so that the fruit does not fall to the ground, and at the same time prune dry branches and branches with pests. Besides, right from the beginning of the orange season, my family has invested in fertilization and pest control, so this year's orange crop is good, the oranges are gradually ripening, waiting for Tet."
The oranges were so heavy that Mrs. Ly had to use bamboo poles to support them.
At this time, Mrs. Ly’s family has also started to harvest small and medium-sized oranges. She is waiting for the big, beautiful ones to be sold near Tet because they will fetch a higher price.
According to the assessment of the pomelo growers, although this year's yield is not superior to many previous years, the quality of the pomelos is considered higher because people have converted to organic planting and care. The pomelos are large, ripen evenly, are plump and beautiful, and are sweeter. On average, each tree will produce 1-1.5 quintals of fruit.
Huong Son people are happy because this year's orange crop is good and the price is good.
Not only in Son Truong commune but also in many other localities such as Kim Hoa, Son Ham, Son Lam, Quang Diem... the pomelo has also begun to be harvested. On average, each household growing pomelo will earn from several tens to hundreds of millions of VND. Some large pomelo farms are estimated to have a revenue of billions of VND from this specialty pomelo tree.
This year's orange crop, Huong Son people expect to harvest more than 12 thousand tons.
The Bu orange is a specialty fruit that brings high economic efficiency to the people in the mountainous areas. Compared to last year, this year's Bu orange has a good harvest, good price, good quality and beautiful appearance. Huong Son people are looking forward to a successful Bu orange crop. In addition to traditional sales channels, the local government is also actively implementing digital transformation, promoting product consumption on e-commerce channels, selling via social networks... to continue to increase the value of this specialty orange.
The whole district currently has more than 1,100 hectares of oranges, of which 820 hectares have been harvested. This year's orange season, local people are estimated to harvest more than 12 thousand tons of fruit. Compared to last year, this year's yield is higher thanks to the focus on applying scientific and technical advances in cultivation. Thereby, helping the trees grow well, the rate of flowering and fruiting is higher; the oranges ripen beautifully... Currently, people are entering the harvest season, with prices ranging from 30 - 45 thousand VND/kg, it is expected that the price of oranges will increase even higher near Tet.
