More than 34,500 hectares of forest in Ha Tinh are granted FSC certification.

FSC sustainable forest management certification is granted through a rigorous, independent assessment process according to international standards, requiring forests to be managed according to strict environmental, social and economic principles. As a result, forest owners are gradually becoming more aware of their responsibility to the environment in general, paying more attention to conservation and biodiversity, protecting water resources and habitats.

In particular, FSC-certified forests create conditions for people to connect with businesses that consume products in the long term, aiming to build an effective and transparent value chain for planted forest wood. FSC certification will also create a competitive advantage for exported wood products when accessing demanding markets such as the EU, the United States, etc.

Ha Tinh has 34,524 hectares of forest certified for sustainable forest management by FSC.

In order to manage forests in a sustainable manner, in recent times, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ha Tinh has proactively coordinated with localities and forest owners to promote propaganda and guide forest owners to develop sustainable forest management plans; coordinate in implementing surveys, collecting information, developing plans and propagating to forest owners participating in granting FSC sustainable forest management certificates. At the same time, transferring science and technology, introducing high-quality forest tree varieties into forest planting; encouraging people to contract planting, care, protection, and conversion from small timber forests to large timber forests;...

Developing large timber forests to meet FSC sustainable forest management certification standards is of increasing interest to localities in the province.

Thanks to that, up to now, the majority of people and forest owners in the province have actively participated in and implemented forest certification assessment according to international standards. Accordingly, the whole province has 34,524 hectares of forest certified for sustainable forest management by FSC (20,550 hectares of natural forest, 13,710 hectares of planted forest, and more than 264 hectares of non-forested land). This is also considered an important condition for the province to participate in the forest carbon credit market in the future.

Identifying the transition to large-scale timber plantation according to international standards as an inevitable trend, Ha Tinh province continues to support organizations and individuals to access forestry policies, improve capacity in sustainable forest management and forest certification. At the same time, organize production associated with the consumption of wood products according to the value chain of planted forest timber; promote the consolidation of forestry cooperatives operating in a sustainable direction; encourage the use of seeds of origin and quality to improve productivity and quality of planted forests.

Huong Son district is promoting the planting of millennium trees under the forest canopy, both bringing high income to people and contributing to effective forest protection.

By 2030, Ha Tinh strives to have about 37,000 hectares of forest certified for sustainable forest management, making an important contribution to implementing the forestry development strategy towards modernity, efficiency and environmental friendliness.

FSC certification is a voluntary standard developed by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to promote environmentally, socially and economically responsible forest management globally.

FSC develops and applies a strict system of standards to evaluate forest exploitation and use, ensuring that forest product production activities not only comply with the law and are environmentally friendly, but also respect the rights of workers and local communities.

FSC certification is valid for 5 years. During those 5 years, there will be 4 business monitoring assessments to check compliance with FSC criteria. FSC certification is currently considered one of the most prestigious forest certifications in the world, especially in export markets such as the EU, the United States, and Japan. FSC includes three main types of certification: forest management certification (FSC-FM), chain of custody certification (FSC-CoC) and controlled wood certification (FSC-Controlled Wood).
