The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has just signed protocols on official exports of chili, passion fruit, bird's nest and rice bran to China.
The protocols were signed within the framework of the official visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to Vietnam from April 14-15, including:
- Protocol on phytosanitary requirements for chili peppers exported from Vietnam to China;
- Protocol on phytosanitary requirements for passion fruit exported from Vietnam to China;
- Protocol on safety requirements and animal and plant quarantine for rice bran and rice bran extracts used as animal feed ingredients exported from Vietnam to China;
- Protocol on quarantine, inspection and veterinary hygiene requirements for raw bird's nest and clean bird's nest products exported from Vietnam to China.
In addition to the above items, China is actively implementing official licensing procedures for Vietnamese agricultural products such as citrus fruits and oriental medicinal herbs of plant origin. In return, Vietnam will speed up the import of sturgeon from China.
In recent years, China has always been Vietnam's largest agricultural export market. In 2024, Chinese consumers spent 4.6 billion USD to buy Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, mainly durian, dragon fruit, bananas, jackfruit...
In the first 3 months of 2025, fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market reached 521.2 million USD, accounting for 47.8% of the export turnover of the entire Vietnamese fruit and vegetable industry.
Currently, 14 types of Vietnamese agricultural products are being officially exported to the Chinese market, bringing in billions of dollars in revenue each year. Of these, there are 6 products for which the two sides have signed an export protocol and 6 traditional products that have not been standardized by an export protocol.
Passion fruit and chili are being exported on a pilot basis.
To date, the two sides have signed 24 memorandums of understanding and protocols on the import and export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products. In 2024 alone, four protocols will be signed, including protocols on frozen durian exports, crocodile exports, monkey exports and fresh coconut exports.
