The matches in round 8 mark the return of V-League 2023 after a 1-month break. This is also a pivotal stage for coach Philippe Troussier to evaluate the ability and performance of the players, thereby considering the list of players to be called up to the Vietnam national team next June.
Hoang Duc was the most impressive player. The midfielder born in 1998 scored a double, helping Viettel Club to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Binh Dinh Club. Notably, this was the first match in V-League 2023 that Hoang Duc "scored". Before that, Hoang Duc and Viettel Club disappointed when they only won 1 out of 7 matches at the beginning of the season, falling to the bottom half of the rankings.
Hoang Duc impressed in Viettel Club's 2-1 victory over Binh Dinh Club
Hoang Duc is a mainstay of the Vietnamese national team under coach Park Hang-seo. The 2021 Vietnam Golden Ball winner and his teammates did not perform impressively at the start of the season.
In the context of Viettel Club rejuvenating its squad and focusing on self-trained talents (instead of foreign players), Hoang Duc's role becomes even more important. The return of the Hai Duong-born player is a good sign for Viettel Club as well as the Vietnam national team, when many midfielders in the team have not found themselves again.
Also in the match between Viettel Club and Binh Dinh Club, another player spoke up, that was Duc Chinh. After 2 years and more than 30 matches in the V-League, Duc Chinh has just scored again. The position of the striker born in 1998 in the Vietnam national team has been controversial due to his poor performance in the V-League. Duc Chinh is considered suitable for counter-attacking play thanks to his ability to press, create walls and fight in the air, but has declined recently despite being given opportunities in the Binh Dinh team.
In the context that coach Troussier can promote many other faces to renew the attack, regaining the feeling of scoring goals is necessary for Duc Chinh to convince the French coach.
Tuan Hai and Van Thanh also made their mark in this round. While Tuan Hai scored his second goal in V-League 2023 with a flying header against Da Nang Club, Van Thanh also shone with a double and an assist against Ho Chi Minh City Club, helping Hanoi Police Club win 5-3.
Tuan Hai scored against Da Nang Club
In this match, Van Thanh was promoted to play as a striker by coach Flavio Cruz. When freed from defensive duties, Van Thanh's outstanding attacking qualities such as finishing, accelerating, and penetrating the penalty area were demonstrated. It should be remembered that Van Thanh only scored 10 goals in 4 seasons in the V-League before this season. From 2019 to now, the player born in 1996 has not scored more than 3 goals in any season. The return of Van Thanh in a new role and new inspiration could be a turning point for the former HAGL player to regain his place in the Vietnam national team.
Also in round 8 of the V-League, many Vietnamese players have returned to play regularly. Que Ngoc Hai played all 8 matches since the beginning of the season for SLNA, Duy Manh and Viet Anh are trusted in the center of the defense of Hanoi Club, Van Lam is still a solid support for Binh Dinh Club, Nguyen Manh, despite being injured, still plays well for Nam Dinh team. Players currently playing for Hanoi Police Club such as Van Hau and Tan Tai, although not too prominent, play regularly. This is a necessary condition to ensure performance.
However, Coach Troussier is still worried because some of the team's key players are having problems. Quang Hai and Cong Phuong are not playing for their home clubs, Van Toan is playing more often but is still in the adaptation phase with Seoul E-Land Club in Korea. Van Quyet is out of 8 matches due to a penalty from the VFF, and Hung Dung has to rest for 1 month after an appendectomy. The form of this group of players is a question mark, causing Coach Troussier to consider the training session next June.
