Provinces unanimously decide English as the third subject for 10th grade entrance exam

As of February 6, at least nearly 20 localities will have English as the third subject in the 10th grade exam in the 2025-2026 school year.

The Cao Bang Department of Education and Training has just finalized the entrance exam subjects for grade 10 of high school in the 2025-2026 school year. Accordingly, students taking the exam at high schools and ethnic boarding schools in the province will take 3 subjects: Math, Literature, and English. Students taking the exam at Cao Bang Specialized High School will take 1 additional specialized subject.

Lang Son Department of Education and Training also announced 3 subjects in the 10th grade entrance exam including Math, Literature, and English. For candidates applying to Chu Van An High School for the Gifted, in addition to the general subjects, students will take an additional specialized subject exam according to their registered wishes.

At the same time, Bac Kan also announced that the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam in the province is English.

According to the 10th grade high school admission plan just approved by the People's Committee of Phu Tho province, in the 2025-2026 school year, students will take exams in 3 subjects: Math, Literature, with a test time of 120 minutes, and English, with a test time of 60 minutes. The score of each subject is calculated on a 10-point scale (decimal part taken up to 2 digits) and the coefficient of the scores of the subjects is calculated with a coefficient of 1. The admission score is the total score of the subjects and priority points, encouragement points (if any).

Candidates applying to Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted must take exams in three general subjects, including Math, Literature, English (time is the same as for non-specialized high schools) and a specialized subject, with a time limit of 150 minutes. The admission score is the sum of the scores of the general subjects and the specialized subject.

The exam organization time must be completed before June 30, and the admission results must be approved before August 15.

Hue announced that the third subject for 10th grade public high schools in the 2025-2026 school year is Foreign Language. Candidates can choose 1 of 3 foreign languages: English, French or Japanese.

Nghe An also decided that English would be the third subject in this year's 10th grade entrance exam. Accordingly, all three subjects of Math, Literature, and English have a structure and format that combines essay and multiple choice questions.

Dong Nai Department of Education and Training also selected English as the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. Accordingly, the English test will last 60 minutes. Math and Literature will last 120 minutes.

English was also chosen by Binh Duong province as the third subject. According to the plan, the 10th grade entrance exam in this province will be held on May 28-29. The entrance exam for Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted will be held on May 30-31.

Binh Duong also stipulates that private schools do not organize entrance exams like public schools, but only organize admission after the exam results organized by the Department are available. The province's quota for public grade 10 is 12,946 students.

Lam Dong also selected 3 subjects: Math, Literature, and English for the public 10th grade exam. Of which, Math will take 90 minutes, English will take 60 minutes, and Literature will take 120 minutes.

At least 20 provinces and cities have announced or are planning to introduce a third subject. Except for Vinh Phuc, all provinces have chosen foreign languages or English.
