Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Day 2023 brings together many leading domestic and international experts and technology leaders in the field of AI.
Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Day (AI4VN 2023) with the theme "Power for Life" will take place on September 21-22 at Riverside Palace, 360D Ben Van Don, District 4, Ho Chi Minh City. The program has many activities such as: AI workshop; AI Summit; CTO Summit 2023 - honoring companies with the best technology environment, AI Expo and AI Show areas.
The event attracted many famous speakers to share their perspectives on research, development and application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in practice as well as ways to utilize this technology to increase productivity, product quality, and enhance competitiveness in the market.
Mr. Pablo Fuentes Nettel is a senior consultant at Oxford Insights, specializing in AI policy, public innovation and technology governance. He is the first speaker at the AI Summit on the morning of September 22, updating the "Government AI Readiness Index". Through summarizing the global AI readiness picture and analyzing the measurement indicators in Vietnam over the past year, Mr. Pablo will suggest some directions to exploit the potential from the dynamic economy, young population, and the presence of technology unicorns.

Pablo is the lead author of the 2021 and 2022 Government AI Readiness Index, which assesses the AI readiness of over 180 countries, including Vietnam. Pablo has been involved in several key research projects that have paved the way for collaborative technology initiatives between the UK and South Korea. His consulting work has had a strong impact globally, including working closely with the UK and Colombian governments.
Mr. Ha Jung Woo, Director of Naver AI Labs , is an experienced expert in artificial intelligence. He was the second speaker at the AI Summit on the morning of September 22, presenting on the issue of innovation in daily life by the AI Data Center.
He received his PhD in computer science from Seoul National University. After teaching at Seoul National University of Education, he joined Naver as the head of the science and technology research team at NAVER. He has held many positions and is currently the director of Naver AI Labs, a member of NAVER Technology Group, known as the "Google of Korea".

3 Alan Turing Institute experts
Speakers from the Alan Turing Institute will shed light on how to use AI technology responsibly at a workshop on the afternoon of September 21. These are experts who play an important role in developing policies, regulations, and implementing programs on artificial intelligence of the UK Government.
Dr. Allaine Cerwonka brings an approach to UK AI regulations and suggests for Vietnam, through the Development Strategy and White Paper on Artificial Intelligence Regulation.
She is currently Head of International Engagement and Deputy Program Director for AI for Science & Government at the Alan Turing Institute. She joined the Institute in 2017, taking on senior leadership roles in developing and deploying large-scale machine learning and data science programs.
Ms. Cerwonka is responsible for the Alan Turing Institute’s international strategy and operations. From October 2019 to March 2023, she served as Deputy Director of the AI for Government & Science Research Program, which aims to extend the benefits of AI to the public sector and basic science, including central government agencies, local authorities, the healthcare sector, and scientific organizations and laboratories.

Christopher Thomas is a Research Fellow in the Alan Turing Institute’s Public Policy Programme, focusing on AI standards, governance and regulatory reform. He is involved in the development of the UK Standards Centre initiative, a partnership between the Turing Institute, the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).
Mr. Christopher Thomas presented initiatives and solutions to develop effective and responsible AI standards.
Prior to joining the Turing Institute, Thomas co-authored the AI Roadmap at the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation (CDEI) and was involved in developing the approach to AI governance in the UK AI Policy and Strategy. Chris was previously a Research Fellow at the Ada Lovelace Institute, where he researched the ethical and social implications of datafication of health.

Dr. Shyam Krishna is an expert in AI ethics and public policy, focusing on interdisciplinary research on emerging technologies, and shares his views on ethical issues and policy decision-making.
His area of expertise is building ethical strategies in data infrastructure and AI policy and governance. His research contributions include work on the gig economy, digital identity, data infrastructure, and generative AI.

In addition to his research, Dr Krishna has consulted on government projects in the UK, India and Kenya. He has experience in data science, analytics, consulting and information security. Through his professional activities, Dr Krishna aims to bridge theory and practice, to define an ethical roadmap for the responsible use of AI.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Le Minh, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) will share about artificial intelligence for businesses at the AI workshop on the afternoon of September 21.
Mr. Minh is currently the director of the Center for Explainable Artificial Intelligence and co-head of the Laboratory for Language Understanding and Machine Learning at the School of Information Technology, JAIST.
Professor Minh's research focuses on machine learning, deep learning, natural language analysis, legal text processing, and interpretive artificial intelligence. Professor Minh serves as an editorial board member of TACL (a leading journal on NLP), a standing member of VLSP, an editorial board member of AI & Law, and a core board member of Jurisin Japan - a new research field on legal issues from informatics.
Dr. Dao Duc Minh, General Director of VinBigdata, Vingroup Corporation is the speaker who will present a paper on whether Vietnam needs to master artificial AI at the AI Summit on the morning of September 22.
Joining Vingroup in 2018, Dr. Minh holds an important position, contributing to planning the research and development strategy of science and technology for VinBigdata according to the Group's orientation.

He received a double master's degree in Information Technology and Telecommunications at the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany in 2009. He then received a PhD in Computer Engineering at Johns Hopkins University in 2015 under a VEF scholarship.
With a solid technology foundation and many years of experience in scientific research and multinational work, Mr. Dao Duc Minh is one of the people who laid the foundation for the development of the computer vision sector of the Big Data Research Institute, before becoming the Image Analysis Technology Block of VinBigdata Joint Stock Company.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy, President of the Faculty - School Club - Vietnam Institute of Information and Communications Technology (FISU) will discuss with experts the topic of how AI will transform businesses, in the AI workshop on the future of Generative Artificial Intelligence in businesses, on the afternoon of September 21.
Professor Thuy is Deputy Head of the National Support for Research, Development and Application of Industry 4.0 Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Co-Chairman of FISU. Not only is he a leading expert in the field of AI research and application in Vietnam, he also participates in managing and promoting cooperation activities and connecting the AI community both domestically and internationally.

Associate Professor Dr. Bui Thu Lam, Vice President and Secretary General of FISU, is the opening speaker at the workshop co-organized by the British Embassy on the afternoon of September 21 with the theme "Responsible use of artificial intelligence". Associate Professor Lam will present the development context and the overall picture of artificial intelligence in Vietnam.
Dr. Bui Thu Lam received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, in 2007 and continued to do postdoctoral research at UNSW. He is a research fellow in the field of AI, specializing in natural computation including neural network computation and evolutionary multi-objective optimization. He is a co-editor of the book Multi-objective Optimization and Intelligent Computing: Theory and Practice (IGI Publishing); and is the Chair of the 9th International Conference on Evolutionary Simulation and Machine Learning – SEAL2012, the Knowledge and Systems Workshop KSE in 2016 and 2023. He is also a member of the working group to develop the National Strategy for Research and Development of Artificial Intelligence of Vietnam in 2021.
Canadian science and technology experts are two speakers at CTO Summit 2023. On the afternoon of September 22, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Phong and Dr. Vu Do Dung shared AI application solutions in the media and programming industry.
Dr. Nguyen Xuan Phong is currently the Director of Artificial Intelligence at FPT Software, a visiting researcher at the Mila Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Canada). He received his PhD in Engineering from the University of Tokyo (Japan), then took on the role of an Artificial Intelligence researcher at Hitachi (Japan).

Dr. Vu Do Dung , Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Stay22, Canada, and Machine Learning Expert, JunctionAI (USA). He received his PhD in Science from ÉTS, Canada, and was a Senior Software Engineer at Renesas, Japan.

The AI4VN Festival is directed by the Ministry of Science and Technology, organized by VnExpress newspaper in coordination with the Information and Communication Technology - Faculty - Institute - School Club (FISU). After 5 years of organization, AI4VN has become the leading science and technology event in Vietnam, attracting the attention of many management agencies, technology corporations, research units, and technology lovers domestically and internationally.
