Localities are about to complete grading high school graduation exams

As planned, at 8:00 a.m. on July 17, the exam results will be announced to all candidates nationwide.

SOME PLACES ARE ALREADY SCORED

Up to this point, some localities with a small number of candidates have completed grading the 2024 high school graduation exam and sent data to the Ministry of Education and Training for comparison. Localities commented that the answers and grading scales for this year's high school graduation exam are clear, convenient for grading.

Candidates for the 2024 high school graduation exam will know the expected exam results on the morning of July 17.

In Phu Tho, the marking of both multiple-choice and essay tests has been completed. Mr. Phung Quoc Lap, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said that the next step will be to compare scores (no later than July 14) and prepare infrastructure and conditions to be ready to announce test scores on July 17 according to the plan set by the Ministry of Education and Training.

The Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong also said that the locality completed grading the 2024 high school graduation exam on July 8 and is preparing to announce the exam scores according to the scheduled schedule. In Quang Tri, the Department of Education and Training said that it completed grading the essay exam on July 7; grading the multiple-choice exam is expected to be completed on July 12.

In Hanoi, where the number of candidates taking the exam is the largest and the number of exam papers in the country, the Department of Education and Training had to mobilize nearly 600 officials and teachers from high schools in the area to participate in marking the exams to ensure the progress of marking and announcing the exam results to candidates on time as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training.

In Vinh Phuc, Mr. Trinh Van Mung, Head of the Examination Department, Department of Education and Training, informed that the exam marking work took place in the first 2 weeks of July. The exam marking council mobilized over 169 officers, teachers and employees to perform the task. The exam marking work is expected to end before July 15, after which the department will send the data to the Ministry of Education and Training for comparison.

In Bac Ninh, the Department of Education and Training said that according to plan, by July 14 at the latest, the department will send all exam results data to the Ministry of Education and Training, including a CD containing all test score data for multiple-choice and essay tests.

Ms. To Thi Anh, Deputy Director of the Yen Bai Department of Education and Training, said that this year the province mobilized 107 cadres, teachers and employees to participate in marking essay exams, including 86 high school teachers who directly marked the exams. The head of the essay exam marking board established a marking inspection team to conduct the marking inspection. In addition, a marking inspection team was also established, including 5 people inspecting the marking of essay exams and 2 inspectors marking multiple-choice exams. At each marking board, there were at least 3 provincial police officers supervising the entire marking process in addition to the 24/7 camera system.

What should the Ministry of Education and Training note?

Mr. Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training, said: For literature, the only subject tested in essay form, to ensure even grading among examiners and minimize loose or tight grading, the Ministry of Education and Training requires localities to strictly implement the tasks specified in the regulations, such as: all examiners must discuss the answers and grading instructions before grading the test; and jointly grade at least 10 papers before grading two independent rounds.

During the implementation of two independent rounds of marking, in parallel with the marking of the exam papers by the marking teams, the marking board also has a checking marking team; marking at least 5% of the essay papers that have been marked by the marking officers for the first or second time according to the schedule to re-check the quality of marking between the examiners. "At the end of each marking session or when deemed necessary, the head of the checking marking team will summarize and report the results of the checking and recommending to the head of the essay marking board to apply appropriate measures to help the marking be fair, objective and serious," Mr. Chuong noted.

After announcing the exam results, the Departments of Education and Training will compare the average scores of the exams and component subjects with the average scores of the corresponding subjects of the 12th grade school year.

Similarly, according to Mr. Chuong, the current multiple-choice test scoring process is clearly regulated in each stage, each step is strict and has the supervision of inspectors. The multiple-choice answer sheets (test papers) must all be scored by machine with the same specialized software provided by the Ministry of Education and Training.

"In the exam marking process, every step is important, so the staff participating in marking the exam must strictly follow the regulations and procedures for marking multiple-choice exams; absolutely do not be creative. If any problems arise, they must be immediately reported to the national steering committee for consideration and handling according to regulations," Mr. Chuong emphasized.

According to Mr. Chuong, up to this point, the exam marking work in localities is still taking place according to regulations, there have been no special situations that the national steering committee has to handle.

Look up exam scores on Thanh Nien Newspaper

According to the request of the Ministry of Education and Training, the organization of the exam marking; summarizing the exam marking work; sending exam result data to the Ministry of Education and Training; and comparing exam results will be completed no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 14. At exactly 8:00 a.m. on July 17, the exam results will be announced. All localities must be ready to prepare infrastructure and conditions to ensure smooth announcement of exam scores.

In addition to localities announcing their TS exam scores on the exam management system, Thanh Nien Newspaper will also be provided with 2024 high school graduation exam score data by the Ministry of Education and Training to serve the purpose of looking up TS exam scores.

Are test results compared with academic results?

Director Huynh Van Chuong said that comparing exam results and learning outcomes has been stipulated in the exam regulations. Accordingly, this is done every year.

After announcing the exam results, the Departments of Education and Training shall compare the results according to Clause 8, Article 58 of the current exam regulations: "Publicly announce the score distribution of the exams and component subjects, compare the average score of the exams and component subjects with the average score of the corresponding subject of the 12th grade school year of the schools in the province"; based on Clause 7, Article 60 of the exam regulations, general schools shall "compare the average score of the exams and component subjects with the average score of the corresponding subject of the 12th grade school year of the school's students as a basis for innovating teaching and learning in schools".
