With a good voice and a bright appearance, after the Sao Mai Diem Hen 2012 contest and then Vietnam Idol, many people said that Dong Hung would quickly become a star. However, for him, the artistic path was not as smooth as that. Family troubles at times made the young singer not dare to accept singing shows. After many difficulties, Dong Hung now has his own music products.
* REPORTER: For an artist, a 10-year career is not a long journey, but for Dong Hung, that period of time was very special?
- Singer DONG HUNG: 10 years, for anyone, is a period of change in many things, life, work. Of course, for me too, no exception. I still remember the time when I just came out of the Sao Mai Diem Hen contest in 2012 with the Promising Singer award, at that time, like many others, I had illusions about myself that I was this or that. And then the incident happened when one day, I realized that my family owed a lot of money. When I came to Ho Chi Minh City, I didn't dare to sing because I was afraid... On the very first night of singing with singer Nguyen Dinh Thanh Tam, someone came to collect the debt. I thought, I should stop singing, manual labor is enough to pay the rent. I did many jobs, rented a motorbike to drive a motorbike taxi, washed dishes, sawed wood, worked as a construction worker...
* Dong Hung said, there was a time when he was singing in a hall where half of the audience were creditors. That was not easy...
- That's true, but at that time, I still had to complete the performance. That incident was the turning point of my life. If it weren't for that day, there would be no Dong Hung like today, maybe I would still be a vagabond, delusional person...
* Many people always think that showbiz is cruel, full of competition, rivalry, jealousy... In general, that place has only negative things on the outside. But for Dong Hung, maybe it's not like that...
- I don't know what people think about showbiz. But this is the place that brought me to the audience, helped me have more people who love my voice and personality; have more friends; expand my relationships and knowledge. Especially, when my family had an incident, I also received a lot of sharing, encouragement, and help from my brothers, sisters, friends and colleagues. That is the sincerity that I will never forget.
* The first MV product Ganh doi is also one of the sweet fruits born from those sincere feelings?
- 8 years ago, during my most difficult time, on his personal page, musician Quoc Trung shared and called for help. He wrote: “Hung really needs money, but even if he helps, it will not be worth it when he is in debt and sometimes it is a path for creditors. I have an opinion that each musician should help him with a song so that he has the inspiration to continue his career…”. After that, I received many words of encouragement, sharing, encouragement and even precious gifts from artists. The song “Ganh doi” by musician Duc Tri was one of the special gifts I received at that time. The song seemed to be written for me, as if telling my own story. But, it was not until now that I was able to bring the song back to the position it deserves.
* You are grateful for what happened to you, is that Dong Hung's mental therapy during the recent difficult time?
- What happened in the past is what made Dong Hung who he is today. So at any stage, I always cherish and try to do everything to the best of my ability. Now, I will fulfill my duties as a father and a husband.
Perhaps, right at this moment, my musical path has truly begun. I am grateful to life for letting me experience many emotions. Grateful because every morning when I wake up, I know what I need to strive for. If I could define the word "happiness", then for me, happiness is knowing "enough". My current life is "enough". Now I can freely "fly" in music and don't want to know where I will go... Just go and it will become a road. I am trying to invest in music and always want to go a long way.
