Breathtaking, realistic scenes and huge investment are expected to bring in huge revenue.
Earned over 10 billion VND after 1 day of launch
At over 60 years old, Tom Cruise still performs his own stunts.
The 7th film of the “Mission Impossible” series is called “Mission: Impossible – Dead reckoning part one”.
The film continues to follow agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) on his journey to complete impossible missions.
In this film, Ethan's past before the intelligence organization Impossible Mission Force (IMF) is revealed for the first time after nearly 30 years of operation.
At the same time, the spy must also race against time to preserve the safety of the world and those close to him.
This installment marks the return of iconic names like Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, and Henry Czerny, while introducing new faces including Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, and Pom Klementieff.
Hayley Atwell is the actress who co-stars with Tom Cruise in this film.
The film premiered in Vietnam on July 8, four days earlier than its global release date. According to Box Office Vietnam, the film topped the box office with a revenue of more than VND10.3 billion after just one day of release.
During the premiere in Rome (Italy) at the end of June, the audience predicted that the film would become a blockbuster this year.
The Hollywood Reporter predicts that the film will gross around $90 million at the domestic box office in its opening weekend. It is expected to break the previous record of “Mission: Impossible Fallout” (2018) - $61.2 million.
According to Variety, “Mission: Impossible” 7 cost $290 million to produce, tens of millions of dollars higher than the original estimate.
This figure is 1.5 times higher than the previous film ($190 million), nearly one-third of the total budget of the 7 films.
Therefore, the film must earn at least 800 million USD to break even and 1.3 billion USD (4 times the production budget) to reach the average revenue of the previous 6 films, to be able to enter the top 20 highest-grossing films of all time.
The reason why "Mission Impossible" 7 is expected is because the work received a storm of praise from experts and international media.
With 42 reviews from critics, the film review site Metacritic compiled and awarded "Mission: Impossible" 7 points of 81, along with the "Must-See" sticker (recognizing movies that deserve to be enjoyed).
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a score of 99% with a “Fresh Tomato” certification for excellent films. This is also the highest rating in the film career of actor Tom Cruise.
ScreenRant is not afraid to declare this the best film in the entire series.
“With AI (artificial intelligence) as the villain, the film offers a fascinating view of the future. The script is also considered to be deep and interesting,” the newspaper commented.
Behind the "crazy" scenes
Tom Cruise (left) and director Christopher McQuarrie behind the scenes of the film.
There are many reasons why the film's budget increased. One part of the film started filming right when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, causing the production process to encounter many obstacles as it had to be delayed and change filming locations many times.
Along with that, Tom Cruise's huge salary also accounts for a large part. No specific figures for the latest film have been revealed, but for the 6th film, Tom earned about 50 million USD.
Director Christopher McQuarrie shared that with the two latest films, the audience will literally be taken to all four corners of the world.
In fact, with a duration of only 2 hours and 43 minutes, the film took the audience on a trip around the world, with spectacular images: Fighting on planes in Dubai, car racing in Rome or majestic mountain ranges in Norway...
The scene where the most difficult action scene was performed in Mission- Impossible 7.
The ramp in Norway, for example, took months to build, with all the equipment having to be transported by helicopter. The scene could only be shot when the weather was perfect, both in terms of light and cloud cover.
The "crazy" thing about "Mission: Impossible" 7 is the "heavy" action scenes performed by superstar Tom Cruise himself. The crew's mission is to fully depict the actor's spectacularity.
Deadline writer Todd McCarthy said the work raised the excitement and impression of the brand to a new level.
Todd considers the film to be the pinnacle of Hollywood action filmmaking.
Sharing the same opinion, Variety said that in the period when special effects were dominating the market, the film's live-action stunts made a difference.
Tom's most dangerous stunt in this movie is probably the scene where he rides a motorbike on a road that is 135m long, 10.8m high, and only 3m wide.
The actor even modified his Honda motorcycle into a world-class 300cc machine.
The road was so dangerous that he couldn't install a speedometer because looking at it meant losing sight of the road ahead, and the star could go off the track and lose his life.
“I had to train myself to the point where I understood the speed of movement through the sound of the motorcycle and the feeling of the molecules moving through my body,” the actor said.
When Tom Cruise drove his motorcycle off a cliff, he had about six seconds to deploy his parachute. “If he didn’t deploy his parachute, he would have been face-first into the cliff in about two seconds,” said Allan Hewitt. “It’s that dangerous.”
After the epic motorbike jump comes the adventurous speed flying at Lake Valley, UK. This is an extreme sport, combining skydiving and skiing.
The actor landed at a speed of 80km/h during filming. Tom said he trained for 3 years for the high-speed skydiving scene. “I wanted to give the audience the feeling of flying,” the actor excitedly said.
In total, to be able to perform his own stunts, Tom learned to ride a motorbike in dangerous terrain for 15 months, practiced 536 skydives and 13,000 times of flying a motorbike.
In addition, over the course of 3 years, the actor also had to undergo a series of parachute training courses, parachute control, and escape from planes at dangerous angles to learn how to adjust his position in the air.
According to Allan Hewitt, the project's safety coordinator for skydiving and parachuting, Cruise performed "more jumps than most athletes training for the world championships." For months, Cruise practiced skydiving in the morning and practicing motorcycle riding on ramps in the afternoon.
Mission Impossible is a famous American spy television series, aired from 1966-1973, then 1988-1989.
In 1996, director Brian De Palma decided to bring the story of the intelligence organization Impossible Mission Force (IMF) to the big screen, starring Tom Cruise.
To date, the six films have grossed $3.8 billion, making them the 18th highest-grossing film series in the history of world cinema. On average, each film has made more than four times its initial budget in profit.
